Beachville District Museum seeks a Curatorial Assistant to work with the Curator/Manager on exhibition re-designs, interpretive planning, administrative tasks, event planning and museum promotions. The position offers contract employment at 35 hours a week starting on May 1, 2023. The contract extends for 14 months.

The Curatorial Assistant will work closely with the general public providing visitor information and tours. Under the supervision of the Curator, the Curatorial Assistant will provide support for fundraising initiatives and event coordination. Further the Curatorial Assistant will be expected to assist with the development of exhibits, maintenance of artifacts, and with the collection accessioning of new and incoming donations. He/She/They will play a critical role in the day-to-day operations of the museum site, including but not limited to, administrative duties, social media, light housekeeping, and other tasks as assigned by the Curator.

The successful applicant(s) should be motivated, a quick learner and have an interest in history, education, museology, and other relevant fields. The applicant should have some experience in any of the following: administration, database management, social media and advertising, cataloguing and preserving artifacts, coordinating of events and fundraising, and has the ability to assist with the summer camps and with the supervision of the Summer Activity Coordinators.

Public transportation is not available to the site therefore applicant(s) should have own transportation or live in close proximity to the museum.

Beachville is situated in the Thames River Valley between Ingersoll and Woodstock, just thirty (30) minutes east of London. The village originally developed around the limestone industry and the railroad, and became a central hub of Oxford County. Beachville District Museum is supported through a joint funding agreement between Zorra Township, South-West Oxford Township and Beachville District Historical Society. It was formed as "Ye Olde Museum" in the village's Anglican Church in 1975, opening at its current location (in the Downing family home) in April of 1992. The main museum building is made of fieldstone and limestone and dates to 1851. It is surrounded by a lush, 4.5 acre, park-like setting. Museum exhibits occupy two storeys of the building and two barns in the museum's agricultural complex.
