Developmental Specialist

The Developmental Specialist will support parents / caregivers of children with developmental delays, a neurodiversity, or who are at risk for developmental delays, to optimize their child’s development, and to access community resources.
**Hours / Schedule**
Full-Time, Temporary
Averaging 35 hours per-week
**Responsibilities**
Using a _guided caregiver-driven approach _which focuses on the family’s individual needs and, strengths, Developmental Specialists may (depending on the family’s service preferences):
- Provide developmental monitoring using a family-centered approach to encourage positive parent child interactions and to facilitate the child’s progress.
- Provide home-based service for infants, toddlers and young children with a developmental delay, a neurodiversity, or who are at risk for developmental delay.
- Support parents to foster secure attachment and developmental accomplishment, teaching to recognize cues and attentive responses that support parents to optimize their child’s development.
- Provide monitoring and intervention to older children, youth with FASD and other neurodiversity and their families through various stages of development and challenges.
- Guide families through IHCAN assessment processes, including assessment referrals, interpreting results, and implementing recommendations.
- Provide in-home, community or virtual support services that help increase the child’s success in the home and community.
- Offer support and collaboration with school and educational planning.
- Facilitate family connections with relevant community services, and help to overcome barriers to accessing supports.
- Provide education, consultation, and advocacy.
- Implement and maintain required case management and clinical records.
Other responsibilities include:
- Building relationships and connections within the community to improve service integration.
- Appling culturally safe and agile, trauma informed, relational and person / family-centered modalities.
**Qualifications**
- A master’s degree in a related Social Services or Human Services discipline (MEd in Early Childhood Education, MSW, MA in Counselling or MA in Psychology etc.) is _preferred. _
- Other Skills and Attributes: _
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support.
- Familiar with IHCAN assessments, and recommended interventions.
- Well-versed in child development, developmental delays, neurodiversity, ASD, FASD and complex support needs.
- Ability to establish trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
**Wage / Benefits**
$40.75 - $42.25 per hour to start, based on relevant experience and education.
Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP contributions).
New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, as well as paid sick days as described in agency policy.
