SUMMER STUDENT JOB POSTING
The Downtown Wallaceburg BIA has an opening for a Landscape Gardener for the summer.

The position in Wallaceburg will start approximately July 4, 2023, for a consecutive eight (8) week period.

The student works closely with downtown beautification volunteers and/or municipal staff to maintain the horticultural aspects and overall tidiness of their assigned community’s public spaces, downtown corridors, and gardens; will assist staff with improvement and beautification of the downtown core area.

Essential Functions
- **Plant maintenance**: plant materials located in beds, boxes, planters etc.; ground maintenance: grass cutting
- General maintenance of shrubs, groundcover, and flowers using tools such as trowels, shovels, hoes, rakes, edgers, pruners, shears, loppers, and some small equipment
- Notify supervisor immediately of vandalism, maintenance and/or public concerns.
- Assist in preparations for community special events
- Control of unwanted weed and grass growth in sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
- General cleanup: community cleanup and litter control
- Maintain downtown areas and parks in a clean and safe manner
- Maintain pathways, parking lots and bridges associated with parks
- Painting: downtown fixtures, including waste containers, and benches etc.
- Provide customer service assistance to tourists in downtown area and parks

Job Specifications
- Previous ground maintenance and gardening experience
- Providing friendly customer service
- Experience and working knowledge of small equipment and plants
- Previous experience working with community and special events, will be considered an asset

Work environment/hours of work
- This position works outdoors
- This position works weekday and occasional weekend hoursDriver’s license/vehicle requirements
- Because of the responsibilities of this position, students are required to be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors
- Walking: frequent walking on level surface, rough surface (up to 22.73 kgs or 50 lbs) (walking in parks; facilities; debris pick up, horticultural work, special events, trimming, and grass cutting, parks checks, equipment checks)
- Sitting: frequent sitting in chair (computer work)
- Reaching: frequent lifting below shoulder, forward, handling (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs) (general garden cleanup; brush removal; painting, horticultural work, sweeping, special event set up)
- Standing: frequent standing inside, outside (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs) (painting, raking, weed whipping, horticultural work, debris pick up, special event set up and take down, trimming)
- Hands: constant gripping (up to 9.09 kgs or 20 lbs) (garbage pickup, brush removal, computer work, hand scrubbing, sweeping, painting)
