The Program Coordinator supervises, assists in the development of, and monitors a specific formal program.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assists the shelter case workers in developing and coordinating the delivery of designated programs; will be responsible for clients/residents, and staff.
- Participates in hiring, orientating, training and evaluating; schedules staff in accordance with government contracts and residential standards may respond to and resolve complaints.
- Ensures the implementation of and may participate in the provision of the case management system including intake, support, referral, networking and other direct services to clients/residents, this includes appropriate use of rehabilitative and disciplinary measures.
- Establishes and maintains proper records and files for each program, writes progress and in-depth reports and provides information on the outcomes of the program (s) and the progress of each client/resident.
- Liaises with community resources and encourage community involvement in programs.
- Monitors and ensures staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, and prepares, submits and acts on incident reports; identifies proactive safety measures to the supervisor based on needs and concerns.
- Participates in or delegates the conduct of physical searches according to policy; ensures documentation of searches and results in log book.
- Ensures that staff maintains the security and upkeep of the building and grounds.
- Provides statistical and evaluative information to management levels when required.
- May provide back-up support to and or assume functions at front desk area or other program areas as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

**Education/Certifications**:
The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sc.B.Sc.N.)
- 2 Year Diploma in Human Sciences
- Certification as an Addictions Counsellor (Check school program requirements)

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

**Experience**:

- One year but less than three year of prior related experience, including experience in a social service settings supervision, budgeting, working with marginalized clientele, and a social services background.
- The incumbent has input to and/or participates in preparing budgets with respect to the departmental budget.

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:

- The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and walking, and occasionally climbing stairs, standing and lifting more than 10 pounds, but less than 20 pounds.
- The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, multitasking, and a moderate amount of attention when reading, and close listening.

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office or a work site within residential and community settings.

The incumbent will work under the follow disagreeable conditions:

- Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, bodily waste
- Exposure to drugs and alcohol
- Noise
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- Verbal Abuse
- Odours
- Overtime with schedule affecting lifestyle

The incumbent may have little to no travel required.

The incumbent will work on call - on a rotation basis.

**EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS**:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate injury or illnesses due to:

- Physical attacks by others (i.e. being attacked by a client/resident)
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to toxic chemicals (some environments)
- Exporsure to bodily fluids
- Sharp Objects (i.e. needle stick)
- Other dangerous situations

**PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES**:
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

- Universal precautions
- Immunization for Hepatitis B
- Vaccination against Tuberculosis
- WHMIS training
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
- Non-Violent crisis intervention training
- Cleared with Child Abuse Registry
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training

***HOURS: 40 hours per week.** Schedule varies dependent on need.**

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:
The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader. He/She/They is responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised.

The incumbent directly supervises up to 30 full-time employees, part-time employees and indirectly supervises up to 80 students and volunteers.
