**SUMMARY**:

- Provides carpentry services at the journeyman level related to the construction, alteration, installation, repair and maintenance of the Aquarium building, grounds and equipment._

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
Provides Carpentry and support to the organization by:

- Designing, building and repairing facility structures; flooring, walls, fixtures, furniture and special construction projects;
- Maintaining and upgrading facility structural changes in accordance with building codes;
- Assisting in the assessment, design, estimating and implementation of projects; determining scope, timelines, and material and progress reports;
- Designing and building transportation containers for safe transport of various live animals;
- Working with a variety of materials such as wood, fiberglass, acrylic, plastic, glass, Arborite, foam board and other materials as required;
- Carrying out other building maintenance repairs as required;
- Maintaining and accounting for tools, equipment and materials required to perform carpentry and maintenance activities, ordering and replacing tools and equipment as needed;
- Performing and assisting with access control repairs including cutting keys, creating lock cylinders/padlocks & maintaining/replacing door hardware;
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Manager, Building Operations;

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education and Experience**:

- Required - 3-year experience working in general carpentry setting;
- Preferred - Red Seal Certification in carpentry, joinery or related field;
- Required - B.C. Certificate of Graduation or equivalent;
- Preferred - Confined Space training
- Preferred - Chemical Spill training
- Preferred -WHMIS training
- Preferred - Knowledge of cutting keys and door hardware maintenance/installation
- Preferred - Fall Protection training

**Skills**:

- Current knowledge of local building codes, regulations and safety standards;
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Valid B.C. Drivers License;
- Strong time management skills;
- Ability to lift and move at least 25kgs;
- Ability to stand, bend, crouch and climb ladder
- Ability to work independently and with mínimal supervision and as part of a team;
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to appropriately handle situations with staff, visitors, and contractors;
- Active demonstration of the company’s values and mission.

**Working Conditions**:

- Exposure to varying conditions; indoor/outdoor, dust, fumes and odors from chemicals, noise from power tools, uneven or slippery surfaces, etc.;
- Occasional exposure to animals in an aquarium setting;
- Work shift might be variable.

**SALARY RANGE: $26 - $36 PER HOUR
