The Fire Prevention Inspector is responsible for enforcing the Fire Prevention Regulations of the Town of Collingwood and the Province of Ontario. This position will perform duties within the authority of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA) and applicable Regulations, and Ontario Fire Marshal directives. The main duties and responsibilities of the position are in the areas of fire and life safety, public education and relations, and other related duties.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience**:

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- NFPA 1031 (Fire Inspector I) Certification or equivalent. NFPA 1035 (Fire Educator I) Certification an asset (or willing to obtain within 12 months).
- Five (5) years relevant experience with the OFC and Regulations, Building Code Act and Regulations, and/or equivalent legislation. Demonstrated capacity and competency to inspect all buildings, structures, facilities and occupancies by the OFC and/or Ontario Building Code (OBC), and ability to read and interpret building plans, drawings and blueprints.
- Knowledge and understanding of common law principles including precedents resulting from court and regulatory body decisions. Knowledge of associated construction approval departments and agencies as well as their related procedures and regulations.
- Excellent administrative, communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, investigation, research, record keeping and public relations skills, together with the ability to use tact and discretion and to deal courteously and effectively with the public and fellow staff members. Ability to compile data for reports with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task, cope with interruptions and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines, exercise discretion and good judgment particularly when handling highly confidential/sensitive information. Possess a high level of initiative and personal integrity.
- Valid Class “G” driver’s license and current Driver’s Abstract with results satisfactory to the Employer.
- Possess a current Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with results satisfactory to the employer, and a valid standard first aid & CPR/AED Level C certification.
