**OVERVIEW**

The Active Lifestyle Center is a vibrant non-profit organization that enhances the quality of life throughout the community. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Custodian is a reliable and competent person with a positive attitude and proven experience cleaning and providing repair services. Sound knowledge of cleaning procedures, cleaning chemicals, cleaning equipment and safety standards, along with observation and customer service skills.

**QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE**
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of professional cleaning experience is preferred.
- Preferred experience troubleshooting building systems, ability to safety use hand tools, power tools, and outdoor equipment.
- Experience in conducting monthly safety inspections of all safety equipment (fire extinguisher, fire suppression systems).
- Certification in Health & Safety, knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.
- Pre-employment criminal background check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Ability to work well independently and has strong time management skills.
- Follows written and verbal instructions.
- Background in handling, mixing and using cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights.

**WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT**
- Considerable physical activity.
- Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
- Position requires (a) use of power equipment to buff and restore floors and shampoo carpets; (b) regular and routine dusting, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms and (c) routine maintenance to custodial equipment.

**RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES**
- Responsible for ensuring the opening of the facility during organizational operations.
- This position will be listed as a contact with the security company - (if called in after-hours - will be compensated).
- Perform set-up, tear down and cleaning duties for programs, services, workshops, events and rentals.
- Ensure all programs, services, meetings, workshops, rental and events have all required equipment.
- Ensure the building is clean and ready for daily operations.
- Assist with all building maintenance work/changes.
- Assist with communications with outside building partnerships/organizations (i.e. Postma Heating and Cooling Co.).
- Perform outside building maintenance duties (i.e. Snow removal).
- Perform general cleaning, housekeeping and other related janitorial duties.
- Available for off-hours or as required for building related emergency issues - first contact with afterhours Service Company when required.
- Work together with all departments for special events and fundraisers.
- Perform related maintenance/custodial duties as requested - waxing, painting, washing windows, etc.
- Secure all equipment, tables, chairs are accounted for and returned to designated areas.
- Perform and record monthly safety inspections of all safety equipment in the building (fire extinguisher, fire suppression systems).
- Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or their designate.

**HOURS OF WORK**
- 20-35 hours weekly, or increased as needed.
- Part time - combination of days, afternoons, evenings, weekends

**REPORTING STRUCTURE**
- Reports to the Executive Director or designate.

The incumbent in this position is required to understand and comply with:

- Canadian Human Rights Act
- The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Police Records check Reform Act - Vulnerable Sector Check
- Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
- WHMIS applicable to the workplace.
- If licensed in any trade, following applicable laws, legislation, renewal of certification as required.
- Any other Act as applicable to the workplace.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 35 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Every Weekend
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift
- On call
- Weekends as needed
