The Accounting Manager, Property Operations Finance is responsible for oversight and management of the
Shared Services team ensuring that all accounting for specific non-controllable expenses have been completed
accurately and timely for all Retirement and Long Term Care properties. In this role, the Manager, Property
Operations Finance, will provide support, training and coaching to their team to ensure that the financial results
are accurate and timely and that Chartwell policies and internal controls are followed. This position will be
responsible for providing monthly reporting on variances for the expenses recorded by Shared Services to
various stakeholders and to partner with the other Accounting Managers.

**Key Activities**
Based on Chartwell’s business plan and corporate goals, and in consultation with the Vice President,

Property Finance Retirement, the Accounting Manager, Property Operations Finance is expected to lead a

team of professionals and will be responsible for:

- Review of the accounting for the property level non controllable expenses
- Work with other members of the Finance and Payroll team to participate in timely month-end and yearend

close process.
- Timely communication of financial results, including variance analysis and reconciliation of accounts

under the responsibility of Shared Services, developing reports that meet the needs of

internal/external customers.
- Review and approve payroll journal entries.
- Assist with coordinating, completion and review of the property operating budgets, working

collaboratively with the Operations Teams.
- Assists with completion and review of forecasts and providing consolidated analysis of same.
- Assisting in the quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Identifies and recommends areas for improvements in the finance department and provides

oversight to implementation of these improvements.
- Communicate effectively with Senior Management, Operations, Property Accountants, other

Finance team members and external third parties.
- Directly supervises and mentor team members in the finance area.
- Motivate team and lead by example.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
**Experience**:

- Related industry experience (preferred) or experience in dealing with high volumes of data processing

and reporting.
- Required experience in financial management positions: 2 - 5 years
- Required experience in accounting finance roles: 5 - 7 years

**Education**:

- University degree (Business/Finance related)
- Professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) or equivalent work experience

Skills & Abilities:

- Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP (required).
- Knowledge of industry specific accounting principles (preferred).
- Strong computer skills - ERP Software, Microsoft Office (required).
- Advanced computer skills - Excel (working with macros, pivot tables, graphing and etc.), Yardi, Hyperion

(preferred)
- Ability to deal with high volume of transactions and automation of workflow
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Self-motivated, creative and innovative
