**COURT DIVERSION AND SUPPORT WORKER**

**Hours of Work: 35 hours per week**

**Job Status: Permanent**

**Base office: Bracebridge**

**Purpose of the Position**:To provide court diversion and case management services to individuals with serious mental illness and/or developmental disabilities who are in conflict with the law for minor offences.

**Education and Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in a human service/health science discipline relevant to the position. Equivalency may be considered for a combination of educational experiences. Examples of equivalency include;
- Addictions: Diploma in human services/health sciences PLUS post-diploma specialization in addictions
- Mental Health related diploma with relevant work experience PLUS registration with a regulated health professional college.
- Minimum of one year experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and developmental disabilities
- Knowledge and experience working in community mental health with the criminal justice and correctional systems
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
- Strong knowledge of mental illness, developmental disabilities, forensics, crisis intervention, case management, life skills training and knowledge of community resources
- An understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Health system
- An understanding of mental health reform and its implications for those people who have serious mental illness and developmental disabilities
- Establish and maintain working relationships with Judges, Crown Attorneys, Duty Counsels, Police officers, court personnel, community agencies, hospital and other relevant organizations as required.
- Advocating for the accused persons who experience personal problems directly related to mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.
- Supports the development and implementation of diversion plans
- Tolerance of and ability to handle a heavy workload and competing demands and high risk situations
- Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment in a rural setting
- Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, and data management software
- A willingness to serve clients within the communities of the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound
- Indigenous cultural awareness and education is an asset
- Bilingual in French is an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook Calendaring and consumer information systems
- A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license and a safe and reliable means of transportation

**Salary scale**: $29.26 - $38.32 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience
