This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

**Location**:Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

This is a continuing career status appointment under the Academic Teaching staff (ATS) Agreement and comes with a comprehensive benefits package. Rank and salary will be determined in accordance with the academic teaching staff (ATS) agreement at the University of Alberta.

**Responsibilities**

**Minimum Qualifications**
- A PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline. PhD must be in hand by time of the appointment. ABD will be considered only if there is strong evidence that the PhD will be completed by the start of the appointment;
- At least a three year track record of effective instruction of courses in Sociology and/or closely related disciplines;
- Evidence of a commitment to developing innovative pedagogical approaches;

**In addition to the above requirements, the below qualifications will be considered an asset**
- Experience with diverse instructional software and technologies;
- Experience with pedagogical innovations, such as experiential learning, community-service learning, project-based learning, and work-integrated learning;
- A track-record of service to a department or comparable unit;
- Versatility in teaching.

**About The Department**

The Department of Sociology is a vibrant unit within the Faculty of Arts and one of the best sociology departments in Canada. Our department currently has 28 full-time continuing faculty members, and approximately 700 undergraduate majors. More than 10,000 students register annually for Sociology classes, including a growing profile of Indigenous students. The department has teaching and research specializations in Criminology, Social Structure & Policy, and Theory & Culture.
