Burnaby, Canada The Poppy Residences Full time

We are seeking one permanent full-time cook to join our team. The cook will play an integral role in planning and delivering an outstanding dining experience for our residents and guests.

This is a four day shift: Wednesday and Thursday 11am-7pm, Friday and Saturday 7:30am-3:30pm.

Skills and Abilities:

- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to understand the needs of the elderly
- Must be a team player and maintain excellent communication skills both written and oral with the ability to follow instructions
- Enjoy working in a busy environment
- Must be in good health
- Prepares and produces all meals as per the posted menu
- Plates the meals for lunch and dinner.
- Forecasts food production requirements on a daily basis and plans for effective utilization of food and leftovers
- Ensures that menu changes are approved by the chef manager
- Presents appetizing and appealing meals to the residents and ensures that all HACCP requirements are maintained
- assists in directing and training staff involved with food preparation and proper use of equipment
- Responsible for cleaning, maintenance and safety of all kitchen equipment
- Monitors risks such as correct food temperatures, fridge and freezer temperatures, and dishwasher temperature
- Maintains food quality, quantity, appearance, and portion size
- Provides general supervision of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef
- Performs other duties as assigned or delegated by the Head Chef or other members of the residences management team
- Maintains effective communication with co-workers. Must practice “respectful workplace environment”
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act

**Requirements**:

- Must complete a Criminal Record Check
- Must possess a diploma from a recognized technical program for cooks
- Food Safe Level 1
- WHIMIS

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $22.50 per hour
