Engineers Nova Scotia is the licensing and regulatory body for the over 8,900 Professional Engineers and Engineers-in-Training practicing in Nova Scotia or on Nova Scotia projects. Guided by the Engineering Profession Act, we license registrants who are qualified and competent, assisting them to fulfill their obligations to practice engineering in the best interests of the public. Engineers Nova Scotia is empowered by the Engineering Profession Act (the Act)

Position Summary

The Professional Sustainment Officer is responsible to the Director of Professional Sustainment for coordination and execution of various departmental programs including;
**volunteer program’s day-to-day operations, recruitment, onboarding, development, and recognition of volunteers. This role provides on-going support and guidance to volunteer applicants, staff, registrants and various stakeholders. The role also ensures volunteer records are maintained and updated on a volunteer management system (VMS).**

**Implementing the professional development program - including developing, planning, and execution of in-person and virtual professional development activities.**

In addition, the role provides direct support to the Director of Professional Sustainment by assisting in the management of additional projects and initiatives within the Professional Sustainment portfolio. These other efforts include:
**Promoting and supporting registrant awareness of equity, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility.**

**Developing programs that generate increased awareness of engineering amongst members of traditionally under-represented groups, the province’s student population, and the public**

**Prioritizing requests from Nova Scotian universities’ engineering faculties and students**

**Supporting committees that assist and advise the Director and the CEO to deliver professional sustainment objectives**

Key responsibilities

Drive the development of the Engineers Nova Scotia’s volunteer program to include:
**Developing and maintaining a volunteer management system that includes a database to support recruitment, retention, professional development, and recognition.**

**Proposing creative ideas and strategy suggestions to reach, connect with and build relationships with new volunteers.**

**Assisting the Director of Professional Sustainment to develop a volunteer management budget**

Support day-to-day volunteer operations to include:
**Working with Directors and staff to identify, assess, prioritize and meet Engineers Nova Scotia’s volunteer needs for both committee work, and events and functions**

**Assisting Directors and staff to draft accurate volunteer role descriptors for the recruitment and posting of volunteer opportunities.**

**Coordinating the recruitment, onboarding and off-boarding processes of Engineers Nova Scotia volunteers, collaborating with Directors and staff, as required including**:

- Developing an onboarding process to include an orientation, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, and a volunteer code of conduct
- Off-boarding interviews to gain insights that may improve the Volunteer Management System

**Orientating and providing ongoing support and guidance to Engineers Nova Scotia volunteers resolving concerns or inquiries and escalating to the Director, as necessary.**

**Supporting Engineers Nova Scotia’s volunteer rewards and retention initiatives, including monitoring, supporting, and motivating Engineers Nova Scotia volunteers in their work.**

**Ensuring that volunteer feedback is collected, reviewed, and acted upon (as necessary) including assessing volunteer roles and expectations, assessing new program/event ideas, and communicating important feedback to Director, Professional Sustainment.**

**Influencing and motivating volunteers who rely on the Professional Sustainment Officer for support and direction.**

Assisting the development and implementation of volunteer best practices

**Educating and providing guidance to staff and volunteers on policies, procedures and initiatives as they relate to Engineers Nova Scotia volunteers**

**Continually evaluating operation of volunteer support to ensure ongoing effectiveness and impact of volunteer engagement efforts.**

**Working with the Director of Communications and Information Technology staff to utilize tools such LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, University groups, etc. to connect with volunteers and potential volunteers to promote volunteer opportunities.**

**Attend industry, university and community events to promote Engineers Nova Scotia’s Volunteer Program and recruit new volunteers.**

**Leading events that recognize Engineers Nova Scotia Volunteers or promote Engineers Nova Scotia’s Volunteer Program (i.e., recognition dinners, years of service, national volunteer week, volunteer
