**Description**

Representing Strategic Way Consulting, this assignment is at our Client location situated on the Lake Huron shoreline between the towns of Kincardine and Saugeen Shores. In this role, the resource will perform radiation protection duties in assigned areas of the radiation safety program for our Client’s nuclear plants and support facilities. This resource will be accountable for carrying out various responsibilities regarding radiation as it pertains to the protection of the station personnel and the general public residing in the vicinity of our Client’s nuclear stations and facilities.

**Assignment Details**

Through a collaborative relationship with the Client and in alignment with their ALARA principles and programs, the successful resource will be responsible for the following:

- Solve radiation problems arising specifically in the reactor units at an independent multi unit nuclear station and assess on a continuing basis the effectiveness of such solutions
- Formulate new or revised Radiation Protection Regulations for consideration, possible approval and use throughout the client’s nuclear generating stations
- Review and approve (as appropriate) the radiological aspects of plant design, operating and maintenance manuals, and work procedures;
- Review new or revised radiation protection policies/standards and procedures, ensure that Client staff and contractors are in compliance
- Assists client in the operations of the internal and external dosimetry service at station or site and in the estimated measurement of internal and in the estimation of external doses received in unusual situations
- Participate in the development of training courses and other training material and conduct training for such courses. Assist in the maintenance of a continuous program through reexamination of plant personnel to sustain a high level of radiation protection knowledge of the station
- Prepare routine reports on station radiological conditions and assists in the preparation of reports for outside regulatory authorities on the radiation protection program in the station.
- Prepare technical reports on radiation protection experience at the station and detailed reports on radiation safety programs and make recommendations for improvements;
- Investigates non-routine radiation protection problems and makes recommendations as to their resolution and assists client in environmental radiological measurements made in the vicinity of the station
- Carry out radiation investigations and duties, such as the controlling of the transfer of radioactive material from the station
- Interpret regulations and policies and provide technical assistance in health physics to the operations group and approves radiation protection methods and equipment
- At the request of the client provides information and advice to design groups for design changes which will improve radiation protection at the nuclear station
- Develop and implement dose and contamination reduction strategies
- Review work plans and procedures for ALARA considerations;
- Conduct or participate in investigations of radiological incidents;
- Develop and deliver presentations as required.
- Performs other duties as required

**Education**
- 4 year Bachelors Degree with a focus in Health Physics, Chemistry, Applied Science, Engineering and/or a relevant study

**Qualifications**
- Minimum 8 years of progressive experience, 3-5 years of experience as a health physicist in a related industry / industrial unionized environment;
- Experience and exposure from working in/for a highly industrial industry such as; utilities, energy, power, automotive, mining, or manufacturing where gained knowledge and experience in radiation protection policies/standards and procedures is preferred;
- Experience with radiation protection and the related problems that can arise within large nuclear plants and the methods used in dealing with them;
- Knowledgeable of related legislation and its influence and our responsibilities to the general public;
- Experience in implementing and enforcing compliance with various radiation protection and safety programs;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels to a wide variety of people. Effective documentation, procedure instruction, presentation and reporting writing skills are required;
- Broad conceptual, diagnostic and analytical skills; ability to reach well grounded, independent conclusions and influence outcomes;
- Strong interpersonal skills, experience in shaping and maintaining productive relationships and partnership across the business unit / among all stakeholders.
