**The Opportunity**:
**WSP **is currently seeking an Associate General Counsel, Claims, Litigation & Insurance to be preferably based in Montreal and work with our National Canadian Team. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this individual will be the lead strategic legal business partner for the Canadian Operations with regard to all matters relating to claims, litigation and insurance. This individual will work closely with the Operations and the various leadership teams in all business sectors with their dispute resolution and claims/dispute avoidance needs. This individual will have management responsibilities for a team of lawyers and professionals providing legal services in Canada. The position involves frequent contact with internal and external stakeholders, management, insurers, as well as WSP affiliates and its parent company. This individual is to provide practical, high quality and timely legal advice while appropriately balancing risk management and commercial opportunities.

**A day in the life**:

- Act as the lead legal business partner for the Canadian Operations with regard to all matters relating to claims, litigation and insurance;
- Provide leadership for all legal support to internal clients and stakeholders;
- Sit on the Senior Legal Leadership Team for Canada;
- Provide oversight and leadership for legal on all matters relating to claims, litigation and insurance across Canada;
- Manage Claims, Litigation, Claim Avoidance and Insurance Legal Team;
- Collaborate with other internal legal teams in Canada and globally, particularly for the Claims & Litigation reporting globally;
- Work closely with other functions to ensure legal oversight where necessary such as Ethics & Compliance, Finance, Risk, Communications, Project Delivery & HSE, Operations;
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Claims, Litigation, Claim Avoidance and Insurance legal team with succession planning;
- Oversee, conduct and manage claims, litigation, arbitration and disputes resolution within different regions of Canada;
- Conduct claim assessments, investigations and risk and liability assessments;
- Retain and instruct outside counsel, experts, arbitrators or mediators;
- Provide timely claim and dispute avoidance legal advice and project assistance to project teams throughout the project lifecycle;
- Provide written and oral legal advice and opinions;
