Western Educational Adventures (WEA) runs outdoor adventure camps for kids on Vancouver
Island, primarily in the Greater Victoria area. Our goal is to teach children valuable life skills
and give them an appreciation of nature through exciting outdoor adventures. WEA is looking
for Outdoor Education **Supervisors** to run our Wild Paws Day camp programs. **Supervisors** are
responsible for mentoring junior staff and are expected to have significant experience in the
industry. Staff may get the opportunity to work on our other camps from time to time.
Position periods include on-call and summer camp. We ask you to take a moment to

Renumeration
$147.5 - $175/day depending on certification and experience.
Program Dates
WEA is looking for outdoor staff to work one or more of the following programs:
Spring Break - Last 2 weeks of March
Summer Camps - June to September
Year-Round On-Call - various day & multi-day programs, pro-d days, school groups, etc.
Hours
Approximate hours are listed below for all our main summer programs. You may end up working
more than just the program you have applied to work. Other duties and hours may be
required, this is only a guide to give you an idea of what you may be doing. Please contact us if
you have any questions or need clarification.
Wild Paws Day Camps
Staff start at 07:45 and finish at 17:15, Monday to Friday at one of the following locations:
1. Elk/Beaver Lake Park
2. Thetis Lake Park
3. Sooke Area
Adventure Camp
Considerations:
The exact location will vary each week depending on which program staff are assigned
to.
Breaks are available throughout the day.
Staff may be asked to work one of our other camps from time to time. They would be
required to work as per the hours of the other applicable positions.
Classic & Adventure X Day Camps
1. Monday-Thursdays
a. Meet at 07:30 near Quadra/Mackenzie
b. Arrive back near Quadra Mackenzie at 16:40-17:00
2. Fridays
a. Meet at 07:30 near Quadra/Mackenzie
b. Arrive back near Quadra Mackenzie at 18:15-19:00
Breaks are available throughout the day.
Overnight Camps
6-day Overnight & Journey camps run Sunday at 09:00 to Friday at 17:00.
Expectations
WEA supervisors are expected to meet **all the requirements of a Senior Outdoor Education**
**Instructor - Wild Paws **as well as:
Be able to manage a program and several staff with mínimal support from management.
Posses strong leadership and communication skills
Make hard decisions
**Responsibilities**:
This contract requires you to be able to perform all functions of a **Senior Outdoor Education**
**Instructor - Wild Paws **as well as:
Mentor & supervise all staff
Work with individual staff to develop short and long-term performance goals
Update management on staff performance, program quality and notable events
Drive WEA’s various vehicles
Plan weekly activities
Communicate directly with parents, especially about children’s behaviour and incidents
Keep a daily log
Adventure Camp
Minimum qualifications:
40 hr Wilderness First Aid certification
At least 2 years experience working with children in the outdoor industry
Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
National Lifeguard certification
Desired qualifications:
Class 2 or 4 driver’s license
At least 1 year of supervision within the outdoor industry
80 hr Wilderness First Aid
Canoe or kayak certifications
