**Salary**: $3,199.90 to $4,282.79 bi-weekly ($83,517 to $111,780 /year)

Alberta Education supports students, parents, teachers, and administrators from Early Childhood Service (ECS) through Grade 12. The Ministry has the following responsibilities: develop curriculum and set standards; evaluate curriculum and assess outcomes; teacher development and certification; supports students with diverse learning needs; fund and support school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and oversees basic education policy and regulations.

**System Excellence Division**
System Excellence is responsible for the areas of teaching and leadership excellence and provincial assessment. This includes certification of all teachers, principals and superintendents in the province; developing and implementing professional practice standards; and conducting practice assurance in relation to the teaching profession. System Excellence division also develops, administers, marks and continually improves Alberta’s provincial assessments, including the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs), Diploma Exams (DIPS), Student Learning Assessments (SLAs) and Literacy/Numeracy Assessments.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Alberta Education leads the development and implementation of the new Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC)/Certificat canadien de l'éducation des adultes (CCÉA) in collaboration with participating provinces and territories. These Canadian-owned assessments provide an opportunity for adults to obtain an academic credential that they can use to:

- Meet the necessary academic requirements for their current employment.
- Seek new or different employment opportunities.
- Return to higher learning in pursuit of further accreditation, usually in colleges or trades.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Produce high-quality, valid and reliable tests to ensure fairness to test takers by:

- Developing and confirming assessment standards and blueprints that reflect the expectations and rigor of the new tests, through collaboration with curriculum colleagues and in consultation with stakeholders and Interprovincial-territorial partners.
- Collaborating with psychometricians to ensure that psychometric principles and guidelines have been applied to questions on field tests and operational tests. and to ensure that all development and marking processes meet psychometric principles and guidelines and ensure fairness to students.
- Chairing technical advisory committee meetings to validate operational tests prior to administration.
- Collaborating with members of the Document Design and Production Unit to ensure that all field tests, operational tests and support documents meet standards of quality for document format and language.
- Collaborating with members of the Special Cases Unit to ensure that documents are provided for conversion to special formats as needed.

2. Actively work with stakeholders and Interprovincial-territorial colleagues by:

- Providing presentations and advice (as required) regarding the CAEC/CCÉA.

3. Contribute to the Branch by:

- Leading and effectively managing operations to ensure outcomes are delivered in accordance with business and operational plans.
- Providing the Director with advice and recommendations on emerging issues, opportunities and challenges.
- Supporting oversight of a budget that provides for contracts and all other expenses associated with test development, scoring sessions, and related activities for these new tests.

4. Collaborate with staff from other sectors branches of the ministry.

Support any initiative of the division and collaboration and communication skills that contribute to a positive and respectful organizational culture.5. Other duties as assigned.
