Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) is a unique area in quality, risk, and safety as it is universally relevant to every healthcare worker, patient, and visitor in every interaction across the healthcare continuum. It is a healthcare field that utilizes epidemiology, risk assessment, and practical strategies grounded on evidenced-based practices, standards, and applicable regulations, which when applied consistently in healthcare settings, can prevent or reduce the risk of transmission of microorganisms and infections.

**Job Summary**:
**What the Role is**
Reporting to the Director, Infection Prevention & Control, the Manager, Infection Prevention & Control supports, organizes, monitors and evaluates the delivery of department services. The Manager is responsible for translating the decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the necessary outcomes.

The Manager works with the Director, Infection Prevention & Control to ensure the program’s business plan is in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan to successfully achieve strategic objectives. This includes ensuring the program aligns with applicable guidelines, standards, policy and procedure, and translated into evidence-based practices accordingly.

On a daily basis, the Manager is responsible for the staffing, scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, co-facilitation of improvement initiatives, change management, and material utilization. The Manager is accountable for the effective implementation of departmental activities which include; surveillance, analysis, reporting, documentation, and the educational component of the program. Working closely with the Director and Medical Director of IPAC, the Manager supports Infection Control Practitioners in outbreak management and exposure investigations. A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks internally and with external stakeholders. The Manager helps steward the program’s operational budget in alignment with LHSC’s financial guidelines.
