**Your role**
- Set a visible and positive leadership example to promote empowerment of employees through coaching, mentoring, two-way communications and delegation of decision-making; take necessary steps to anticipate impact of changes and to identify and remove barriers.
- Establish policies, operating procedures, work methods and standards for the Waste Collections section and monitor the section’s operating performance against established policies and procedures and initiate corrective action in the sections as required.
- Ensure proper hiring practices and work scheduling for employees in the Waste Collections section. Provide orientation, training, performance feedback, counseling and career development for employees.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (through inspection and corrective action) is maintained and issues raised are expeditiously tended to.
- Maintain up-to-date thorough knowledge of existing applicable legislation, guidelines, regulations and policies.
- Provide effective training and supervision to all staff and contractors on site policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Act as the Solid Waste Resources contact for Ministry of Labour, Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Transportation and other ministries, as may be required.
- Monitor the effectiveness and continuously improve the services preformed by the Waste Collections section to ensure that this section is performing as efficiently as possible.
- Continuously research industry best practices and develop implementation strategies.
- Monitor and assist with budget preparation for related operation budgets, capital forecast budget(s).
- Participates as member of Solid Waste Resources Management Team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- Experience supervising staff and leading work teams in a unionized environment.
- Knowledge of all legislation related to waste collection/transportation plus the ability to research and stay up-to-date with new legislation.
- Knowledge of applicable waste management legislation.
- Knowledge of purchasing by-laws and purchasing instruments such as RFP’s, RFQ’s, tenders and contracts.
- Ability to oversee operating and capital budgets.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation and specifications.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal and team building skills.
- Knowledge of the Labour Relations Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders, the media and the general public.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
- Excellent customer service and public relation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in order to meet deadlines.
**Rate**
Non-Union Grade: 5 $79,113.20- $98,891.50
