**The Opportunity**

New Leaf Enterprises, Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s job skills training and employment program, seeks an enthusiastic, flexible, and dedicated Food Service Instructor for our commercial kitchen. The Food Service Team is comprised of a Manager of Catering & Food Service, four Food Service Instructors as well as rotating shifts for Program Employees. Program Employees are persons with disabilities enrolled in our program that work alongside Kitchen Instructors to gain skills and valuable experience in a commercial kitchen setting.

The Food Service Instructor will report to the Manager of Catering and Food Service, New Leaf Enterprises.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Work as a part of the Food Service Team, to coordinate the operations of the on-site commercial kitchen to ensure an excellent quality product and that catering orders are completed and delivered.
- Work within the New Leaf Café, ensuring great customer service and Program Employee training.
- Coordinate the workload in the kitchen to ensure challenging and meaningful Program Employee training.
- Assess Program Employee skill levels.
- Participate in the process to identify food service goals for each Program Employee.
- In cooperation with the staff team, coordinate Program Employee involvement in the Food Service Program to ensure individual goals are achieved.
- Control inventory and ordering to ensure sufficient supplies are available to meet production demands.
- Control waste.
- Maintain regular communication with staff team re: Program Employee training, schedules, concerns, and support required.
- Available to work at both our main kitchen (22 Fielding Ave, Dartmouth) as well as our off-site location at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre (1341 Summer Street, Halifax).
- Deliver catering orders within HRM.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in an appropriate discipline or combination of education and experience related to skills training.
- Professional qualifications including core competencies and training standards as identified by the NS Department of Community Services, or willing to undergo training.
- Food Handler Training Certificate.
- Training and experience in commercial baking and food preparation.
- Experience in a retail food service setting.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Must be a collaborative team player, with flexibility to assist with other New Leaf Enterprise and Easter Seals Nova Scotia programs as needed.
- Ability to work under pressure while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to lift up to 20 kg/50 lbs, operate a commercial grill and carry large trays of product is a must.
- Very strong organizational skills.
- Effective computer skills.
- A passion for supporting Nova Scotians with disabilities is a must.
- Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
- Current and Valid Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Persons Check
- Proof of Vaccination required.
- Minimum three years related experience.

**Hours of Work**

This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position, Monday-Friday 7am-3pm. Salary range: $45,330- $49,145 annually based on experience. A group employee benefit package is included.
