Financial Controller

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with the generally accepted accounting principals of a public company.
The Controller has two direct reports, senior financial analyst and senior accountant and a full service outsourcing business processing group.
**Responsibilities**:
Management
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in the design and management of the company’s central data warehouse, ensure data integrity within.
- Manage outsourced accounting functions.
- Lead the budgeting process.
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure that achieves the department’s goals and objectives.
Transactions
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
- Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
- Process payroll in a timely manner.
- Ensure periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
- Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
Reporting
- Issue timely and complete financial statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as required.
- Support operations with useful reporting and analyses.
- Prepare and report cash flows forecasts
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.
- Manage the productions of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Provide for a system of management cost reports
- Provide financial analysis as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
Compliance
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
- Oversee the annual audit and tax compliance processes.
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
- Comply with local, provincial, federal, and international government reporting requirements and tax filing.
Other
- Other duties as required.
**Skills**:With 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a financial role within a manufacturing operation, the Controller will also possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration. The Controller will possess a CPA designation a have a background that includes participation in systems integration and implementation and with sufficient IFRS reporting experience.
Experience working for a public company is ideal, although not essential.
