**Residential Worker - Casual/Hourly**

**About the Role**:
The Whitby and Oshawa Residential Programs are a safe, structured, supportive environment for female identifying, male identifying, non-binary, gender fluid youth primarily (but not exclusively) in Durham Region. The Residence Programs are designed to assist in learning the skills necessary to live independently in the community. This includes key areas of self-sufficiency such as: Budgeting, Time Management, Menu Planning, Job Keeping, Food Preparation, Communication Skills, Goal Setting, Problem Solving and Decision Making. The programs also consider the individual needs of the clients by providing counselling in areas such as anger management, substance abuse, family and relationship problems, and taking responsibility for their own lives.

**You’ll be working on things like**:
**Direct Support**
- Providing exceptional leadership, mentoring and positive relationships with residents
- Utilize counselling, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, mediation and positive reinforcement skills
- Facilitation of daily living skills (ongoing)
- Complete routine shift duties, including but not limited to: supervision of residents, monitor job search, and deal with any situation that may occur on your shift
- Ensure a safe atmosphere for clients and ensure the residence is secure
- Dispense medications upon request and document accordingly.

**Case Management/Documentation**
- Participate in Intake, Reference Checks, Move In duties
- Development and implementation of individual Service Plans, Plans of Care, Counselling Sessions and Contact Logs
- Complete documentation of all pertinent information in client files and staff log book
- Document medications received and dispensed
- Liaise with Community Partners including probation, child welfare, Ontario Works, ODSP, ancillary service providers, family, employers, health care providers and educators
- Complete Incident Reports and Serious Occurrence Reports as per Ministry Guidelines

**Administration**
- Knowledge of and adherence to John Howard Society of Durham Region's policies and procedures
- Complete administrative duties such as, balance cash, ensure forms are up-to-date, answer phones/return calls, process receipts, statistics compilations, FAX attendances to OW and CAS
- Attend all residential staff meetings, agency meetings, training as assigned.
- Process Program Fees and other cash responsibly following protocol.
- Adhere to and follow Alarm and Fire Procedures/Protocol

**Community Liaison**
- Represent the agency in the community when required
- Work collaboratively with community partners (e.g.; schools, child welfare, probation)

**If you have the following we want to hear from you**
- Related post secondary college or degree program of study to include 1-1 counselling.
- Must have a solid understanding of the issues and trends that youth face.
- Proven experience working with youth
- Valid Class G license with appropriate liability coverage
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certification, Crisis Intervention training and certification and ASIST Certification is an asset
- Strong case management and organization skills
- Experienced in using Zoom to host/co-host meetings, including using polls, breakout rooms, annotation mode
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to take initiative and work as part of a team
- If selected employment is conditional upon a satisfactory Police/Vulnerable Sector Check and a Children's Aid Society Child Protection Screening.

**Travel**: Yes, as required (mileage reimbursement)

**Salary**: $21.73 per hour
