D U T I E S
The Career Advisor will offer a wide range of career and employment supports and services
to students, recent graduates, and employers. The duties will include ensuring students and
recent graduates are provided with the employment supports they require to achieve
success in their employment goals; providing students and recent graduates assistance with
job search strategies, cover letter and resume writing, interview preparation, employment
supports and services in both a personalized manner and through workshops/presentations;
and collaborating with staff and faculty to build partnerships and create an environment that
elevates student potential and together assist in student success. The Career Advisor will
work closely with employers to assist them in meeting their recruitment needs by providing a
link between businesses and their future employees found in the College’s student body.
Services will include: coordinating and hosting Employer on
- and off-Campus events,
resume collection, involvement in various employer engagement opportunities, advertising
of job opportunities on Career Bridge, and acting as a central information hub to respond to
and direct employer inquiries.
- R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S- Undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Education or Human

Resource Management; equivalent combination of education, training and experience
may be considered
- Several years of relevant experience in advising individuals on a variety of career and

employment related matters through 1-1, small and large group advising sessions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in a cross-cultural environment with

people of diverse professional backgrounds
- Excellent presentation and workshop facilitation skills, with the ability to develop, deliver

and modify employment workshop/presentation materials based on the audience, and in
- person and virtual formats
- Demonstrated business and community acumen, and proficiency in engaging with

College departments, industry, community, service agencies, post-secondary institutions,
and government departments at various levels
- Strong time management, planning, organizational skills and attention to detail for

coordinating unit activities, including advising appointments, recruitment events,
presentations, and workshops
- Executive reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills, and the ability

to make logical and professional decisions that demonstrate understanding of the post
- secondary process
- Knowledge of barriers and challenges faced by diverse students in securing jobs and in

workplaces (e.g., international/immigrant, Indigenous, and students with disabilities);
skilled in strategies to address these barriers
- Proficiency in various presentation and communication tools, learning technologies,

website content management systems, event planning and MS Office
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning

and continuous improvement
- A S S E T S- Knowledge of current labour market trends
- An understanding of Red River College Polytechnic and its programs
- Knowledge of community resources and relevant government departments, programs,

and supports, including work-integrated learning funding, platforms and service providers
