SETTLEMENT PRACTITIONER IN SCHOOLS

RED DEER, AB, CANADA

FULL-TIME 3 MONTHS CONTRACT

We’re looking for a confident individual to join our team of Settlement Practitioner in Schools to:

- Facilitate programs and services that contribute to the integration of newcomer youth,
- Deliver training, sessions and programs that support the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing for newcomer youth
- Help newcomer students and families as they navigate the Alberta school system.

A little about what you bring to Care for Newcomers:

- The desire to help newcomers and a focus for community building
- Relevant education on work experience in client service provision and/or a certification as a Settlement Practitioner.
- You take initiative, determine priorities and work with mínimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the settlement process and issues facing immigrants and refugees during their integration process
- You enjoy public speaking, and you are a natural at group facilitation skills
- Network and liaison with the community are your strengths

A little about what you’ll do:

- Outreach and recruit new families
- Complete intakes and needs assessment,
- Work with clients to develop a wrap-around settlement action plan
- Provide school registration and transition assistance during school intake through practical guidance, culturally sensitive counseling, and supported referrals
- Provide individual and group information, orientation and referral services with practical information and cultural and social orientation to life in Canada and the community
- Support other Care for Newcomers youth programming, including SNAP (Settlement for Newcomers through Activities and Programming), NOW (Newcomer Orientation Week), after school programming, etc.

**Salary**: $3,929.00 per month

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Red Deer, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
