Second Season Farm can provide you with a fulfilling job experience in Newcastle, Ontario.

Our market garden grows a diversity of organic vegetables, and incorporates profitable woody perennials throughout the farm. We use human scale tools, as well as a walk behind and compact tractors. The job is physically demanding, and produces a lot of job satisfaction.

This is our seventh season in operation, and we retail at two local farmers markets. Our goal here is to employ local people for a longer season every year. Learn more about us via our social media accounts and website.

**Principal responsibilities and tasks**:

- Ensure farm spaces and equipment are left in a clean and organized manner at the end of each workday
- Assist with infrastructure projects, and farm maintenance
- Greenhouse: start seedlings, nursery maintenance
- Field: transplanting, weeding, pruning and moving irrigation
- Harvest: picking, washing and packing vegetables
- Attend occasional farmers markets (assist with set up, take down and sales)
- Orchard maintenance :pruning, weeding, harvesting
- Safely use and maintain all manual and power tools
- Good work ethic, responsible, positive attitude and is willing to learn and take direction
- Physically fit, including the ability to lift 30 lbs +, work with heavy tools, and flexibility for a lot of bending, kneeling, crouching
- Ability to maintain consistent workflow outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind, mosquitos, dust). This is a fast-paced, production job.
- Proper clothing for all conditions is required. ($200 equipment cash provided)

**Assets but not requirements**:

- Valid G driver’s license preferred
- Passionate about the environment and agriculture
- Farm experience or related experience such as tree-planting, landscaping, construction, high pace production like fast food etc.
- Interest in their own agricultural future or career

**Skills**
- Strong organizational skills such as multitasking, prioritizing, planning, effective time management
- Verbal communication skills and ability to ask questions when tasks are unclear or end results are uncertain
- Ability to give and receive feedback in a productive and thoughtful manner

**Other Details**

Timeline is May to September with the possibility of some additional work in the fall.

Work would be Monday-Friday, usually 8-5, with 15 min paid break and a one hour unpaid lunch.

Harvest and market days may start earlier. Our markets are Friday and Sunday.

Share of weekly fresh vegetables and $200 equipment bonus provided.

We collaborate with other farms, businesses and talented professionals. Efforts can be made to introduce you to the extended farm community.

We do not have any accommodation options on the farm, so reliable transportation is required. Rental housing may be available in town close by.
