**Term of Co-op**: 12-16 months

**Position Summary**:
We are seeking a talented technician to join our dynamic team. You will be a key member of our team, supporting the daily functioning of our process development (PD) laboratory in an organization that is advancing the commercialization of cell and gene therapies and regenerative medicine-based technologies.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Assist in the maintenance of key equipment in the PD lab.
- Assist with equipment troubleshooting.
- Assist in the daily organization and operation of a multi-disciplinary lab, including: receiving of materials; monitoring inventory; and, equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Assist in writing and revising documents, including: lab standard operating procedures (SOPs); equipment logs; and, the generation and maintenance of records.
- Develop and improve the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully support assigned work.
- Assist and train others as necessary.
- Work effectively with other team members in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Document work and prepare written and oral reports with accuracy and reliability.
- Demonstrate integrity, credibility and a positive attitude in daily performance to motivate others to do the same.
- Assist in overseeing environmental, health, and safety programs for CCRMPD lab; ensure appropriate adherence to policies and procedures; administer and track training and retraining of employees; be knowledgeable of regulatory requirements, changes in the field and impact to CCRM.
- Oversee all aspects of daily laboratory maintenance and operations; work with multiple project teams to ensure reagents and consumables are available when needed and at an optimal cost.
- Investigate and coordinate laboratory equipment repairs, when required.
- Maintain the waste management program for the PD lab.
- Proactively identify and address laboratory needs and problems.
- Exercise significant independent judgment, initiative and decision making, in consultation with the management team and appropriate lab staff, to resolve technical and logístical problems (e.g. scheduling of equipment maintenance and repairs).
- Contribute to the development of guidelines, procedures, and standards.
- Interact frequently with internal contacts and occasionally with external contacts.

**Qualifications**:

- Currently enrolled in a College or University program in a biotechnology, engineering, or cell biology related discipline.
- One or more years’ experience working in a Containment Level 2 (CL2) research laboratory setting.
- Working knowledge of key equipment found in a CL2 lab (e.g. incubators, biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, etc.).
- Practical knowledge of cell biology and/or bioprocess techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety plans and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial and local regulations.
- Experienced in following and composing SOPs.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and process development skills.
- Possesses excellent organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.

**Desired Characteristics**:

- Experience in cell and gene therapy or regenerative medicine.
- Familiarity with the applicable regulatory frameworks and requirements for cell and gene therapy and regenerative medicine, such as GMP, ISO, or medical device development.
- Independent, detail-oriented, self-starter with the ability to multitask and succeed in a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes.
