Writer (Copywriter)

We have an immediate opening for a **Writer** in our **Whistler, BC** office. MMGY Origin’s writers combine important concepualization and creative development duties with copywriting production and execution responsibilities. Our writers develop copy for a wide variety of projects (including brand articulations, advertising campaigns, interactive, video, and social media), and work closely with the accounts, strategy, design and content teams to brainstorm ideas, create concepts, and develop messaging. By cultivating a deep understanding of each client's industry, products/services, branding, and marketing goals, our writers sit at the apex of our niche - strategy and storytelling for the outdoor sport and tourism industries.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Interpret creative briefs to develop and produce creative concepts through execution on assigned brands
- Write fresh copy that connects with the desired audience and drives action
- Write original copy and edit content for a range of marketing and communications materials, including advertising campaign language for banners, social ads, billboards, print ads, magazine articles, web copy, blog posts, social posts, product naming, scripts, storyboards, etc.
- Play an integral role as a creative partner in the brainstorming/conception, development and execution of creative, compelling and strategically sound advertising, promotion and marketing concepts.
- Research and understand assigned client's needs and target audiences
- Vary the tone of voice, style, and other characteristics demanded by the industry, company, or target audience at hand
- Stay updated on appropriate style guidelines and brand voice for consistency in messaging
- Attend, as an active participant, client briefings and presentations of creative concepts
- Present copy concepts and final deliverables to the internal team, and to clients as needed
- Revise copy based on internal and client feedback/direction
- Edit and proofread copy as needed
- Use SEO principles to maximize copy’s reach
- Support Strategists in the development of assigned RFP responses and participate in client pitches on occasion
- Contribute regularly to Origin’s thought leadership, blog posts and website
- Stay current on new trends, technologies, web platforms and social networks
- Regularly and proactively share new and emerging communication and outdoor industry trends with MMGY Origin staff and clients

**Qualifications**:

- 3+ years of experience working as a writer in a creative agency environment
- Critical and conceptual thinker, eager to collaborate with designers and strategists to conceive smart and creative marketing
- Perfect written English and a demonstrated care for grammar, spelling and writing mechanics.
- Have an avid interest in outdoor culture and/or be an active participant in outdoor sports (skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, cycling, trail running, etc.) and travel.
- Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines.
- Have an understanding of the current web and social media landscape and tools
- Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a high-volume workload often requiring short turnaround times
