Interior Health (IH) is seeking a dynamic student to work in its Environmental Sustainability portfolio. This role will be based out of Kelowna, BC. This is a four-month term position, from approximately January to April, 2024.

The Environmental Sustainability team promotes and leads environmental initiatives at Interior Health to ensure our healthcare service delivery continues to be sustainable. At IH, we focus on identifying opportunities within our sphere of influence which can be implemented to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and our negative impact on the environment. Environmental Sustainability is a shared responsibility across IH, and applies to all portfolios and functional areas, supported by the Environmental Sustainability Manager.

**What will you work on?**

The student will provide assistance to the Manager of Environmental Sustainability on a research project, to identify and implement environmental sustainability improvements in Surgical Services at Interior Health.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support planning initiatives related to environmental sustainability and employee engagement.

2. Conduct research, data analysis, and reporting on environmental sustainability projects.

3. Develop staff education and engagement campaigns. Provide assistance to implement behaviour modification programs to reduce environmental impacts.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:

- Enrollment in a post-secondary program, preferably a 3rd, 4th year student or Masters level student.
- Enrolled in Environmental Studies/Engineering/Sciences Undergraduate or Masters Program or a degree tracking towards a career in environmental studies/sciences management.
- Knowledge and understanding of employee education and engagement strategies.
- Experience in researching, analyzing and interpreting data, establishing best practices and developing recommendations.
- Experience in communicating complex information in a variety of forms (including written, oral, group presentation, and visual) to various audiences;
- Experience drafting communications materials i.e. backgrounders, PowerPoint presentations for multiple audiences;
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License desirable.

Skills and Abilities:

- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
- Excellent computer skills (Internet, MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to research to obtain information and interpret analyze data.
- Ability to synthesize information in a concise report for general audience understanding.
- Ability to work in a complex fast changing environment in both a team and individual setting.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems and lab services.
