**The Role**
- To provide support to students and faculty in the English Language Learning and Acquisition program (ELLA) with the use of education technology in N4206, N4208 and other classrooms in which labs are conducted. Provides exceptional client-centred service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.**Responsibilities**

**1. Organizes daily operations of the language lab settings.**
- a. establishes procedures, in consultation with ELLA faculty, for appropriate use of equipment and resources available in the language labs;
b. monitors daily the condition of equipment and resources available in the lab, determines whether they are in appropriate running order, determines probable cause of equipment or system failures, and takes appropriate troubleshooting action;
c. files service requests with Centre for Educational & Information Technology (CEIT), communicates with personnel to ensure effective lines of communication;
d. keeps ELLA faculty informed of current status of equipment and lab functionality.
- **2. Provides technical assistance to students and faculty.**
- a. sets up equipment and necessary materials for laboratory work while ensuring that the laboratory is a clean, safe, and stimulating learning environment, removes and stores equipment after use;
b. develops and delivers orientation workshops as needed to train faculty to understand the technical functionality of the equipment and resources available for instructional purposes in the language labs;
c. develops and delivers sessions either during class time or outside class time to demonstrate to students how equipment functions in the labs;
d. catalogues and maintains an inventory of resource equipment and materials used in the lab;
e. demonstrates equipment usage and safety procedures as needed, for students, in the lab setting;
f. prepares training materials consistent with the needs of faculty;

**3. Provides administrative assistance and prepares a variety of activities, materials and displays for use in a variety of educational settings.**
- a. supports student progress processes including development of forms and documents; supports students with technical difficulties; organizes and assists with class materials used by faculty;
b. researches software and other resource material which may be useful for the language labs to acquire;
c. transfers data and information from one form to another, such as digitizing video.

**4. Provides technological and administrative support to lab assistants and ensures the smooth running of the lab classes.**
- a. Maintains digital and physical files of lab tasks for each lab class and makes them available to lab assistants as needed.
b. Maintains supplies needed for lab tasks and makes them available to lab assistants and faculty.
c. Assists lab assistants and/or faculty with technology during (and in preparation for) the lab classes.

**5. Performs other related duties as required.**

**To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need**
- 1. Good working knowledge of English (written and verbal).
3. Previous training or experience working with ESL students and awareness of typical communication strategies for assisting language development.
5. Demonstrated technical ability to troubleshoot and determine sources of equipment problems and to make appropriate service calls.
6. Demonstrated ability to deliver training and presentations to students and faculty on equipment and software used in the CTELL and audio labs.
7. Well developed planning, coordinating and organizational skills, together with a proven ability to work independently with a minimum of direct supervision, establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
8. Proven aptitude for gathering information and researching appropriate educational technology materials.
9. Knowledge of appropriate copyright provisions.
10. Proven ability to compile and compose correspondence, reports, informational and publicity documents.
11. Strong interpersonal skills along with inter-cultural experience, awareness and communication strategies.
