Watari was developed in 1986 as a response to the lack of services and programs for high-risk street-involved youth in Vancouver. Since then, Watari has helped thousands of people in the Downtown Eastside and the surrounding communities, through several youth and community programs as well as through our counseling team. Over the years, Watari has developed important programs not only for youth but for everyone needing support here in the community, including Indigenous people and migrant workers. Our Latin American Group and Vietnamese Community Kitchen have become important staples in the community as well. Although much has changed over the years, Watari continues to be a safe and supportive place for the people in the community. Today, Watari has 13 essential programs made possible by the dedicated staff, and amazing volunteers and community partners

**Job description**

This is a community support (1 FTE) position, part of the Team at 320 Alexander Street. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with all staff at 320 Alexander. The 320 Alexander Wellness Programs Coordinator will support the creation and update of appropriate policies and procedures in setting up the wellness programs including laundry, showers, wellness supports such as personal hygiene, haircuts, hair removal, esthetics, foot care and other wellness activities at 320 Alexander. The successful applicant will coordinate reporting and other information requirements. The 320 Alexander Wellness Programs Coordinator will have organizational skills, an ability to work independently, manage deadlines, acute knowledge of community services, the ability to work on weekends and evenings as needed and adjusting work schedule accordingly not to exceed weekly hours. The 320 Alexander Wellness Programs Coordinator is able to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and organizations working at 320 Alexander St.

The successful applicant shall be familiar with the Constitution, Code of Ethics, and Oath of Confidentiality of Watari Counselling and Support Services thereby subscribe to its philosophies, standards, and objectives. The successful applicant shall also maintain a working knowledge of the Watari Policy and Procedures Manual.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide honest, respectful care and develop trusting alliances with vulnerable communities that are using 320 Alexander St.
- Refer members of 320 Alexander committees to the appropriate internal resources when needed
- Document wellness program meetings with community organizers
- Maintain accountability of Community Organizers contracts
- Ensure adequate orientation and training for all Wellness Program community organizers
- Able to work collaboratively with Watari teams and community partners
- Maintain accurate petty cash receipts, time sheets, records, and data so that this can be reported to the Funder
- Accept referrals from within Watari counselling and outreach teams, conduct appropriate intake to ensure that the referral is a good fit for the Wellness Program
- Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are being followed
- Create a list of responsibilities and duties for Wellness Program community organizers
- Attend community meetings and events relevant to Wellness Program
- Assist with cultural supports for Wellness Program
- Work with Watari community to develop Wellness Programming at 320 such as laundry, showers, and wellness activities, always ensuring safety protocols are followed and well known by participants
- Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all conversations and referrals
- Access, collect and distribute relevant information and resources
- Liaise with co-workers, other organizations, and programs in the community where appropriate and to secure better coordination
- Attend Watari biweekly staff meetings/320 staff meetings
- Participate in clinical supervision meetings
- Attend agency training as required
- Submit required paperwork in a timely manner
- Provide supervisor/manager with documented critical incidents, verbal updates on progress, developments, and unusual occurrences in a timely basis
- Hold the confidence, trust, and respect of community members and members of committees
- Ability to maintain emotional distance from committee members, recognizing boundaries and respecting them
