**About the Opportunity**:
The Elliott Community wants to take this opportunity to further enhance the lives of our residents by focusing on physical programing within our recreation department. This position will be responsible to facilitate a variety of group exercise programs that focus on strength and balance, range of motion, exercise and movement, and falls prevention. These programs will be delivered to our residents in both long term care and retirement living.
- Plans and implements physical recreation programs to improve the functioning of residents with a wide variety of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, developmental, spiritual or age related needs.
- Implements 1:1 and group recreation activities.
- Documents resident progress in programs through progress notes.
- Provides a positive, supportive and welcoming atmosphere during recreation programming.
- Communicates and documents behavioral observations of residents to team members.
- Encourages resident involvement in recreation opportunities and provides necessary supports to facilitate resident involvement and participation.

**To be successful in the role you should have**:

- Current enrollment or completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics or Kinesiology or Recreation & Leisure Studies, Recreation Therapy, Older Adult Development, Gerontology or Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited college or university with experience facilitating exercise or fitness programs.
- Fundamental knowledge of recreation principles and practices and its effects on resident functioning.
- Basic knowledge of terminology, diagnoses, issues and conditions related to residents levels of functioning and abilities.
- Ability to plan and lead a variety of recreation programs under the emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual domain.
- Smart serve certification and Safe Food Handling certification, is an asset.

**What we offer**:

- This is a summer contract ending in early September: full-time hours, 75 hours bi-weekly, Monday to Friday. May require some weekends/ evenings.

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
