As working supervisors (performing welding duties) these positions requires highly skilled heavy-duty equipment welding and fabrication expertise. It is responsible for the supervisions and/or technical direction in welding operations occurring in the Mechanical Branch by the Welding and Machine Shop staff ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Rules & Regulations. In addition, it assists in all materials ordered, equipment needs and inventory management with stockroom staff.

**Duties will include but are not limited to**:

- Supervise the welding operations by coordinating the work of licensed welders and machinist, determining appropriate methods/procedures and administering technical decisions on work to be performed, time required to complete jobs, considering the cost implications, accessing the quality and structural integrity of the workmanship and material used to build or repair a particular piece of equipment.
- Supervise section staff, approve and schedule leave requests, overtime, conduct regular performance reviews, addressing issues and consulting with the Manager and/or HR as required.
- Schedule and delegate work, track and report overtime/leave, train employees in new procedures and/or practice, coordinating and setting priorities and work plans including all welding service truck calls.
- Recommend safety procedures and practices to Safety Committee and Branch Manager, reinforcing Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Open computerized work orders, review, sign off and coordinate work with Depot Manager, Mechanical and Parts Room Supervisor, advise on time required to complete repairs according to operational need.
- Be prepared to be on call 24/7, be available after normal work hours.
- Maintain stock and ensure welding truck is ready for immediate use day or night for service call and roadside repair.
- Perform welding repairs on a variety of light and heavy equipment, modify existing equipment when necessary, and identify parts and materials charged to each piece of equipment.
- Perform basic mechanical duties when requested such as, hydraulic repairs, changing tires on light and heavy equipment, electrical, exhaust and air intake repairs, and engine cooling systems
- Change wheel assembly units (wheel already installed on rim) and assist with tire changes on all vehicles and equipment types;
- Ensure appropriate stock level of materials on hand, choose appropriate electrodes, welding wire, shielding and cutting gases, grinders, wheels, drill bits, etc., on a daily basis, while comparing pricing of stock, prepare inventory and submit material requests to Parts Supervisor.
- As required, operate a 8 ton rough terrain crane and forklift to fit heavy parts and materials in to place, operate heavy-equipment to bring into shop for repairs, to test function of the finished product, including hydraulic function of cylinders, motors, pumps, levers, dumps and chains on trucks, loaders, graders, crew cabs, paving and snow removal equipment.
- Perform repairs and modifications to buildings, gates, fences, locking repairs on cabinets, garbage bins, on wheels, benches, etc.
- Make accurate measurements for machining of pins shafts, bushings, bearings, sprockets and mechanical parts for Machine Shop.
- When requested perform basic mechanical duties, unloading & loading of delivery trucks, shop shut down and lock up.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Must have successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Must have a valid Trade Qualification with a Red Seal in Welding issued by an approved institution.
- Must have a minimum of two years supervisory experience and be able to maintain a cooperative
