Primary Duties
Reporting to the Manager, Sustainability & Climate Change, the successful student’s primary duties will include:

- Manual labour necessary to maintain Utilities Kingston's Water Conservation Garden in a condition suitable for its intended use as a showcase for water-conscious horticulture methods.
- Understands the flora and design aspects of the garden.
- Works in collaboration with the City of Kingston staff to maintain Utilities Kingston's Water Conservation Demonstration Garden.
- Conducts tours and educational sessions for Kingstonians of all backgrounds on sustainable gardening practices pertaining to water-related issues.
- Conducts inspection and/or administrative tasks as required in relation to Utilities Kingston's water conservation programs.
- Helps develop educational programming to be used for elementary and high-school level students, and other Utilities Kingston customers.
- Performs limited administrative tasks related to the demonstration garden.
- Assists in the delivery of workshops related to residential property drainage.

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
- Knowledge of sustainable horticulture and gardening practices.
- Demonstrated interest in water conservation or sustainable gardening
- Ability to perform manual labour outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience in public education initiatives and strong verbal communication skills, an asset.
- Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, an asset. Knowledge of sewer, water, gas & electric utilities, an asset.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently of direct supervision.
- Ability to speak and write in French, an asset.
- Gardening or landscaping experience is considered an asset.

Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment
- Full-time student at a recognized post-secondary educational institution, and returning to full-time attendance Fall 2023.
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee's own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.
- Valid Class 'G' driver's license, an asset.
