The Opportunity

Columbia College is seeking a Full-time** Instructional Development Consultant. **The working schedule for this position will be Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, 35 hours per week. The role will be performed four days on campus and one day online.

**SUMMARY**:
Understanding issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the teaching and learning context is critical, and an equity-minded lens and approach are required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

**Academic Quality Assurance**
- Annually, for each program scheduled for review, establishes and maintains communication with the relevant Deans/departmental representatives to start the program review process
- Offers guidance to departments undertaking program reviews by holding information sessions and semesterly check-ins
- Prepares and distributes documents related to program reviews, including but not limited to templates, institutional data, surveys for self-studies (collaboratively with relevant service areas)
- Maintains and ensures that the templates, forms, and policies are up-to-date
- Provides critical feedback on drafts and final versions of Self-Study reports, particularly on learning outcomes, level of completion, and breadth of consultation and reflection

**Faculty Development**
- Participates in institutional meetings covering topics relevant to the Teaching & Learning Centre
- Provides guidance to faculty to implement the process and methodology of creating quality learning environments and experiences for students
- Supports instructors in course design, developing learning outcomes and assessments that are aligned
- Participates in developing, evaluating and enforcing the College and departmental policies, procedures and strategies relating to curriculum development and design
- Prepares and submits comprehensive reports, planning documents and supporting information to aid in effective instructional design initiatives
- Oversees the development and implementation of training for the faculty community in new advancements in instructional strategies
- Serves as a consultant to the College community regarding alternative methodologies in instructional design and current trends in pedagogy
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in pedagogy and teaching strategies
- Maintains excellent working relationships with faculty, staff and administrators
- Oversees projects, including budget development
- Evaluates program effectiveness and makes recommendations
- Works collaboratively with the educational technologist to support faculty development
- Performs related duties as required

**Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion**
- Develops resources related to aspects of curriculum design and development, including culturally-relevant assessment of student learning
- Collaborates with academic stakeholders to develop and deliver inclusive and intersectional educational programming for faculty, based on student population needs
- Lead the improvement of College services through consultation, collaboration, training, and advising faculty and academic leaders with the integration of UDL principles in the learning environment
- Supports instructors seeking design consultations to enhance individual courses, assessments, and/or teaching and supervision approaches by building on Indigenization and decolonization frameworks

**Open Educational Resources Development
- Organizes and leads OER meetings as the Chair of the OER Committee
- Provides support for faculty participating in the OER Fund Program (OERFP)
- Creates faculty contracts and relevant organizational paperwork to oversee the OERFP
- Prepares and distributes documents related to the OERFP to relevant stakeholders
- Works collaboratively with Payroll to ensure faculty and external contractor payments are on schedule
- Leads OER-related workshops to educate faculty on the OER initiative
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest OER developments
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in a post-secondary setting
- Recent teaching experience that includes full responsibilities for lesson planning, experiential learning, and rubric-based assessment designs, preferably at the post-secondary and secondary level
- Knowledge of competency-based curriculum and assessment design approach
- Understanding of open pedagogy and open educational resources (OER)
