**Position Summary**:
**Responsibilities**:

- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints or work from a sample product to determine machining operations to be performed and plan best sequence of operations
- Compute dimensions/tolerances and layout /measure work pieces
- Setup, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including lathes, mills, boring, planning, drilling machines
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
- Using lathes and mills, produce parts for ships such as liners for tailshafts, valve stems, bronze bearings, and keyways
- Produce parts for yard equipment and machinery
- Produce weld test plates
- Produce various types of threads (internal, acme, etc.) on parts
- Use precision measuring tools to verify dimensions for accuracy and conformance to specifications
- Complete other mechanical work as needed
- Other duties as required.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/shop drawings
- Ability to accurately dimension work samples to create shop drawings and replicate parts
- Ability to use measuring devices such as vernier calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes, and various gauges
- Ability to operate lathes up to 30 feet in length and chucks up to 40 inches
- Ability to operate a drill press to drill and tap holes
- Ability to create various types of threads including acme threads, internal threads, etc.
- Trade certification is preferred but not mandatory
- Three to five years manual machining experience
- Strong attention to detail
- A strong mechanical aptitude is required
- An understanding of, and ability to work with, various skilled trades is required
