**JOB DESCRIPTION - Piano Bar Bartender/Server Position**

**The Piano Bar waitstaff **are responsible for providing dining services to all residents and guests, ensuring the principles of fine dining and service excellence are met. The waitstaff should be very engaging and have the knowledge to make recommendations contributing to a culinary experience of the highest quality, consistency, and creativity.

**Key Relationships**
- Reports to: Dining Room Supervisor, Executive Director
- Interfaces and builds relationships with_: _Service employees, Nursing and other department staff, Residents and Families.

**Key Performance Measures**
- Meets provincial governing bodies and The Waterford standards for safe food handling, food service and sanitation
- Completes job duties as assigned in the time allotted
- Absentee time is within the ESA and Waterford standard
- Takes action when issues arise and reports to the DSC or designate in a timely manner

**Accountabilities**

The responsibilities of the **Piano Bar waitstaff** may include but are not limited to the following;
- Complies with all provincial/Retirement Home regulations and established Food Services department policies and procedures.
- Complies with Ontario liquor laws and legislations
- Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner.
- Speak with others using clear and professional language, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
- Taking beverage and food orders and serving them to guests on a timely manner.
- Mix and garnish beverages according to recipe and portion control standards. Record any wastage.
- Knowledge of Piano Bar menu along with their prices and any promotions or special offers.
- Must be comfortable with upselling and providing recommendations
- Good knowledge of wine selection, wine service and Beer service. Able to make recommendations based on menu selection.
- Ensuring that the bar and lounge stations are fully stocked, clean and tidy always.
- Establish rapport with guests to build loyal and satisfied customers.
- Accurately total, process and collect payments from guests to include, but not limited to, using the point-of-sale system.
- Should know basic cashiering procedures like handling money, processing credit and debit cards, making change.
- Assists in monitoring quality of food and supplies received and advises DSC of problems.
- Reports food, supply, and equipment needs to DSC.
- Follows proper food handling techniques and infection control practices.
- Dates, labels, and stores food properly.
- Uses equipment and supplies properly. Understands WHMIS and follows health and safety guidelines.
- Knowledgeable of, and practice, home’s fire safety and emergency programs.
- Attends departmental and home’s staff meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions.
- Is knowledgeable of the Resident’s Bill of Rights.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets.
- Performs other duties as are necessary and appropriate.

**Qualifications**
- Experience in a dining-room or bar setting serving food and taking orders, preferably in a fine dining restaurant or retirement community setting.
- Must be knowledgeable of the (Provincial)Ontario Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
- Ability to work as a team member, understanding the priorities of others.
- Must be able to read, write and accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be able to work accurately, quickly, and safely.
- Must be able to work and communicate effectively with Seniors.
- Strong customer orientation to older adults.
- Ability to communicate clearly with peers and subordinates.
- Ability to manage their time effectively with little supervision.
- Up to date police check-vulnerable sector.
- Smart Serve Certificate.
- Ability to work flexible hours and weekends.
- Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and energy.

**Working Conditions**
- Sits, stands, stoops, bends, lifts and walks intermittently during the workday.
- Regular exposure to temperature extremes, noise, biochemical agents and wet floors.
- Exposure to hazards from use of kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Close concentration required while serving food.
- Early morning, evening, and weekend work required.
- Lifting alone, maximum 23 kg., (1 - 10 kg. usual), as a major job function.
- Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100- 120 lbs usual) as a major job function.
- Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as carts, trolleys with contents that weigh a maximum of 100 lbs., (5 - 15 kg usual) as a major job function.
