**Summary of Position**

The Senior Estimator is responsible and accountable for the direction, preparation, and documentation of the estimating and purchasing full cycle process for all structural, earthworks, sewer, watermain, and road construction projects for Niran.

**Key Responsibilities and Duties**
- Interpret project drawings and specifications
- Responsible for the completion of the full cycle estimating process for construction projects
- Oversee and direct a team of Estimators through the full cycle estimating process, including the assignment and the review of estimates with the General Manager and Operations team
- Assess contract documents and prepare estimates of detailed costs of materials, labour, and equipment for structural, earthworks, sewer, watermain, and road construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications, including regional and municipal standards
- Administer tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and assist with negotiations
- Establish and maintain tendering processes and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Establish, foster, and build professional relationships with all subcontractors, suppliers, consulting engineers and clients
- Negotiate best pricing and prepare purchase orders and subcontract orders as required
- Collect pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
- Establish project budgets to be used in costing system
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
- Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors and prepare change orders and adjustments to cost estimates
- Ensure accurate take-offs for quantities from project drawings
- Negotiate and incorporate addendums to plans and specifications of ongoing projects
- Prepare construction progress schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager
- Monitor trade publications for project leads
- Review and ensure that Sub-contracts and Purchase Orders meet agreed upon prices and conditions
- Review tender and issued construction drawings in order to capture changes to the contract not identified by the engineer
- Lead the implementation of the B2W software program
- Other assignments as required

**Education and Experience**
- 10+ years’ experience as an Estimator for sewer, watermain and road construction projects with knowledge of GTA and/or southern Ontario regional and municipal standards
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) or C.E.T.
- Subdivision servicing experience
- Ability to meet tight tender deadlines while maintaining accuracy
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Advanced knowledge of computerized industry standard estimating systems and MS Office.
**Health and Safety**
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the _OHSA_, regulations, and internal policies and procedures
- Report to his or her supervisor any missing or defective equipment or protective device which could endanger any person
- Report to his or her manager the contravention of the _OHSA_, regulations, or company H&S plan, policies and procedures or any observed hazard
- Refrain from operating any equipment, machine, device or thing or otherwise working in a manner that may endanger anyone
- Avoid engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
- Know, understand and implement safe work practices and procedures
- Know, understand and employ established rules and procedures for handling materials, equipment and processes (e.g. reporting unlabelled containers, using proper lifting techniques, etc.);
- Request that worn out or defective equipment be replaced
- Use all safety devices provided, ensuring optimum condition of devices and report any defects immediately to a supervisor

- Report all injuries, incidents, hazards and unusual conditions immediately to supervisor
