ABOUT THE ROLE

The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking several term instructors to fulfill the role of Recreation Program Leaders. These leaders serve on a recreation team responsible for the delivery of quality program experiences to children and families residing in Electoral Area A (_Cassidy, Cedar, South Wellington, and Yellowpoint_). Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinating team, the leaders will assist with planning and implementing quality recreation programs for children, youth, and families. Duties include maintaining registration; planning, organizing, and leading program activities; direct supervision, leadership, and safety monitoring of registered participants; integration of children with diverse abilities; providing excellent customer service; interacting with parents; maintaining program supplies, equipment, and facilities; and other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

General qualifications include leadership (paid and/or volunteer) experience working directly with children in recreation and/or childcare settings or other related services. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, general knowledge of recreation programs, and guiding children’s behaviour are essential. Incumbents must possess and maintain a current first aid (Emergency First Aid, or Standard First Aid, or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C. Other applicable certifications such as a Class 4 Driver’s License, High Five, NCCP, Canucks Autism Network, Physical Literacy 101, National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, Child and Youth Care, training in nature interpretation and education, and outdoor skill development are considered assets.

POSITION DETAILS

These positions are dependent upon program registration. Work hours vary based on need; however, general hours will be Monday to Friday from approximately 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm, possibly with some morning and weekend hours. Program locations include various community buildings in Electoral Area A (Cassidy, Cedar, South Wellington, and Yellowpoint). The wage will range from $22.00-$23.25 per hour based on education and experience.

Please Note: Term Instructors must submit a Criminal Reference Check (CRC) within 30 days of their start date. Those working with the vulnerable sector will be required to complete a CRC prior to their start date.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual
Part-time hours: 2-8 per week

**Salary**: $20.00-$22.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
