Vanderwell is an Alberta, family-owned forest products manufacturing company operating in northern Alberta for more than 75 years. We have a modern sawmill, planer mill, and pellet mill, which produce dimensional lumber, wood pellets, shavings, and chips for wholesale customers.

We’re a major employer in the local region, we have more than 180 employees working throughout the operation -- mill production, sales & shipping, woodlands, truck and mobile equipment shops, and administration. Contract and part-time employees are also employed in maintenance, transportation, and seasonal activities.

**The Opportunity**

We are currently looking to hire a **Management Forester **for our woodlands department.This position is part of small team of professionals working together to meet the company’s goals related to sustainable forest management and ensuring a consistent wood supply of approximately 575,000m3 of logs for the mill operations on an annual basis. This position will be based at our office in **Slave Lake, Alberta**. Job duties include but are not limited to:

- Co-ordinating operational planning on crown land with two types of long-term tenure, Timber Quota’s and FMA agreements
- Managing FMP commitments related to growth and yield and other short and long term strategic forest management priorities
- Ensuring the company is meeting and reporting on our ongoing forest management implementation on an annual basis
- Working with other companies to meet regional Forest Management Plan commitments and goals
- Supporting operational research and trials to fully utilize new and evolving tools to assist in both short and long term operational planning
- Taking on tasks and responsibilities related to forest operations when required
- Working within a small team environment with the opportunity to take on new and evolving tasks

Must have:

- Degree or diploma in Forestry or related discipline
- RPF or RPFT status or eligible to become a registered professional in Alberta
- 5 years of experience working in Forest Management or a related field
- Excellent computer and GIS skills
- Proven organizational skills coupled with excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Ability to communicate and participate in stakeholder engagement and related activities
- Desire to complete tasks to a high professional standard
- Experience with ATV’s and other OHV’s related to travelling in the forest

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
