**Job Description**:
Reporting to the VP Advancement and Strategy, the Communications Officer is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy to support the fundraising efforts and the alumni engagement program.

The key objective of the communications strategy is to mobilize, inspire, and engage donors, partners, volunteers, alumni and members of the College community, to help advance the mission and vision of Algonquin College. The Communications Officer works closely with the VP Advancement and Strategy, to discuss and shape the communications strategy and key initiatives based on: the fundraising goals, programs and activities; the alumni programs and events; and the overall objectives of relationship management with the different advancement audiences.

The Communications Officer delivers high quality and sophisticated communications content with accurate and timely information to support and promote Advancement’s goals and desired outcomes. The incumbent coordinates and supports all Advancement communications activities including the development of marketing/promotional materials, the development and management of the fundraising case for support, website and social media content, donor relations activities and alumni events, alumni messaging and storytelling. The incumbent also provides writing and editing support to the members of the Advancement team.

The Communications Officer demonstrates trust, tact, political acuity and confidentiality in all activities, on and off campus, and has strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, time management and organizational skills. In particular, the incumbent demonstrates a high level of writing and editing skills which is a key function of this role.

Writing and Editing

The Communications Officer is a key resource for the Advancement and Strategy Division and works in collaboration with the fundraising team and academic colleagues on major fundraising proposals, cases for support, gift announcements and donor recognition strategies. The Communications Officer is also a key resource for the alumni team to promote alumni stories and deploy alumni engagement campaigns.

Events

The Communications Officer provides support to the Advancement and Strategy Division for the planning and coordination of key fundraising, donor recognition and alumni engagement events.

Electronic Communications

The Communications Officer collaboratively oversees the content development and strategic management of the Advancement websites, and implements integrated social media strategy and relevant protocols for fundraising and alumni engagement.

Communications Planning

In collaboration with the VP Advancement, the Communications Officer provides operational expertise in the development, planning, execution and evaluation of the Advancement communications plan.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a two (2) year College diploma or equivalent qualification in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English, Administration or non-profit management or in related field;

Minimum of five (5) years experience in the following:
- Extensive experience in results-driven marketing and communications - in an academic environment or in the non-profit sector- Relationship management and stakeholder relations experience- Demonstrated project management and budget management expertise- In-depth knowledge of web, digital and print production and graphic design best practices- Experience in assigning and coordinating the work of others- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and simultaneously co-ordinate a variety of activities- Familiarity with fundraising strategies and activities and capacity to report on the impact of giving- Familiarity with alumni relations or membership base organizations and the power of storytelling
