Position: Mechanical Drafter/Designer

Reports to: Mechanical Lead

**General Description**

Island Technical Installations is a full-service electrical contractor specializing in custom electrical equipment design/supply, testing and commissioning services, and low/medium/high voltage installations. Our trade staff consists of engineers, electricians, and technicians. We provide services for a spectrum of industries from heavy industry such as mining and marine to commercial and institutional facilities such as universities and hospitals.

The mechanical design team at ITI supports a fast paced, custom & OEM manufacturing operation. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the development of a host of standard and custom product offerings for clients across North America. ITI’s breadth of operations provides an unparalleled learning opportunity for the mechanical design team to see their designs go from concept to reality to operating in the field with feedback at every stage.

As a member of the mechanical design team, you will:

- Prepare detailed drawing packages utilizing the Solidworks software suite with an emphasis on sheet metal designs and materials tailored to ITI's in house fabrication and assembly teams.
- Prepare fabrication files for internal and external manufacturing and assembly teams.
- Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team of experienced engineers and trades people
- Ensure designs and drawings meet internal standards for quality and manufacture-ability.
- Develop tools to improve efficiency, reliability, and quality of standard and custom products alike.
- Aid in projects related to cost analysis and reduction, procurement and product research, and documentation and process improvements.
- Opportunities to work directly with fabrication team for hands on learning and experience with sheet metal fabrication processes and tools

**- A mechanical engineering technologist or draftsperson with a strong base knowledge of 3D CAD software, drafting, and CAM programming.**

**- Eager to learn and excited to be a part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and trades.**

**- Strong communicator**

**- Strong working knowledge of**:
**o Solidworks 3D CAD software, sheet metal suite experience an asset, CAMworks add on software experience an asset**

**o Microsoft office suite, excel in particular.**

**Key Responsibilities**
- Preparation of detailed drawing and fabrication packages utilizing Solidworks 3D CAD software
- Coordination with other disciplines/team members to ensure project completeness and success.
- Internal projects related to cost analysis and cost reduction, procurement and product research, and documentation and process improvements.

**Qualifications and Abilities**
- Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma or drafting certification preferred.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Must be a team player, willing to work with others in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Intermediate/advanced computer skills.
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite, especially Excel.
- Strong working knowledge of Solidworks 3D design, experience with sheet metal design, Solidworks PDM, & CAMworks considered an asset.
- Computer programming knowledge considered an asset, particularly Microsoft VBA.
- Hands-on or field work experience is considered an asset.

Please note that due to the collaborative and sometimes hands-on nature of the position, work will be based in person at ITI’s office in Saanichton, B.C. 15 minutes north of Victoria, B.C.

**Salary**: $45,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
