Camp Host and Ambassador

Loon Lake Lodge & Retreat Centre is seeking an energetic, organized, and self-directed couple with a positive attitude for the position of live-in caretaker and camp ambassador (“The Caretaker”). The Camp Host is responsible for being on-site during non-office hours. Loon Lake Lodge & Retreat Centre is located within the University of British Columbia (UBC) Malcolm Knapp Research Forest in Maple Ridge, 6.5 km north of the main entrance. Loon Lake Lodge & Retreat Centre is part of UBC and hosts over 20,000 guests annually for corporate retreats, wellness weekends and youth school groups in a nature-based destination.

The Camp Host position’s central priority is to provide guest service to Loon Lake clients; providing off-hours liaising for guest arrivals, keeping abreast of maintenance concerns, and assisting with general labour needs. The position requires the Camp Host to be on-call during all non-office hours (6 pm to 8 am), 7 days per week (including statutory holidays); they will remain on-site in the evening, night, and early morning.

In addition to general on-site presence and guest services, the Camp Host must complete 5-hours per week of documented work of general maintenance. These tasks can include the following:
Position functions:
1. To provide security for camp buildings and infrastructure

2. To assist Camp staff in welcoming and monitoring guests

3. To inspect and document deficiencies in camp infrastructure and facilities

4. To provide emergency response and notification

6. To provide general site maintenance around Camp

7. Snow removal, debris removal, light landscaping work, including mowing playing field and weed whacking

Position requirements:
1. Valid class 5 driver’s license

2. Ability to pass a background check

3. Authorized to work in Canada

4. Fluent in English (written and spoken)

5. Non-smoker

6. Neat, clean, and organized

7. Excellent customer service and communication/problem solving skills

8. Ability to work with mínimal direction

Compensation - Exchange for Service Agreement:
In exchange for the above duties, Loon Lake provides on-site housing (including all utilities, internet, landline) and occasional meals at the Loon Lake Dining Hall. The house provided is a brand new (approx.) 550 sq ft 1 bedroom and den home with a complete kitchen, washer/dryer, gas fire place and private parking.
