Urban Impact is immediately hiring for a newly created **Controller **opportunity in our New Westminster, BC office. Reporting to Director of Financ**e, **the Controller acts as manager with overall responsibility for the day-to-day accounting and finance function.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will be an integral part of the financial team; they will be relied on to provide key financial information and reports in a timely and efficient manner to better allow the Executive Team and management to make informed decisions. This position is a leadership position and will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting practices while training and mentoring junior staff. You will act as a key support to the Director of Finance and the Executive Team in executing the company strategy.

The Controller will be the go

**The Role**:

- Managing and mentoring financial team; ensuring that direct reports have clear job targets.
- Leading and managing the delivery of full cycle accounting functions, including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and taxes.
- Developing the finance team by managing performance, setting goals consistent with organizational goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
- Ensuring that financial statements and management reports are prepared in accordance with ASPE GAAP or best practices.
- Ensuring accuracy and deadlines are met for financial and other reports.
- Liaising with and supporting the Executive and Management Team on any financial analysis or issues required.
- Monitoring financial results and covenants, and reporting findings to the Executive Team.
- Reviewing variances and financial results and providing detailed information to the Executive Team.
- Preparing cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
- Overseeing the tracking of projects and capital expenditures
- Supporting the acquisition of capital assets.
- Competing all necessary reporting requirements and supporting external auditors on the annual audit engagement.
- Monitoring and analyzing the financial department to develop more efficient procedures and proper use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.
- Driving improvements to accounting processes and systems to obtain operational efficiencies, improve internal controls and produce financial information in a more accurate, effective, and timely manner.
- Acting as the key liaison for all software and outsourcing providers
- Supporting the development and implementation of IT policy and best practice guides for the company.
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.

**Qualifications and Experience**
- CPA designation with a minimum of 5 year’s experience (will consider CPA designation senior students with solid work experience)
- Minimum of 2 years+ experience in a Controller role.
- 5+ years of experience working in a financial management position preferred.
- Proven ability to develop strong relationships based on trust and integrity.
- Demonstrated leadership background with the ability to communicate financial information and influence positive change.
- Attention to detail with strong analytical skills & follow up.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft products, specifically Excel.
- Knowledge of Adagio is an asset, but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with staff, peers and superiors both within and outside of the company.
