**Duties**:
Are you a dynamic communicator with a passion for media monitoring and analysis? Do you find international issues interesting and stimulating?

As Media Analyst for GAC, you’ll move fast and adjust quickly by rolling up your sleeves to get the job done. Every day is different, and you’ll use your experience and judgement to develop new skills and be pushed beyond your comfort zone. If this is something that interests you, then the GAC communications team will help you grow and propel your career forward.

Working closely with other team members you will be responsible for:

- Preparing daily summaries of news related to the department;
- Preparing detailed media analyses on specific issues of importance to the department using specialized media analysis software;
- Carrying out electronic searches of print media.

The Media Monitoring and Analysis team at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) consists of approximately 15 employees who work on a pre-determined schedule, with start and finish times between 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and who are occasionally on-call on weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION:

- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience approved by the employer.

Based on their education, training and/or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the IS classification are deemed to meet the minimum education standard whenever a bachelor's degree without specialization is called for in a position classified as IS.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES
- Experience in media monitoring or preparing media analysis.
- Experience in researching, writing and editing content on complex issues.
- Experience in a client service environment.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in performing media monitoring searches using technology and tools (e.g. Factiva, Eureka, NewsDesk, etc.).
- Experience in preparing and delivering various communications products, such as media advisories, news releases, backgrounders, media responses, etc.
- Experience in researching, writing and editing social media content.
