**Position Description**:

- We seek to recruit a senior biological data curator (biocurator) for an exciting opportunity at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at the Hospital for Sick Children to carry out research study operations that will support world-class fundamental and pre-clinical research at SickKids. The biocurator will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to lead a curation team for rigorous annotation of protein, genetic and chemical interaction data from the primary biomedical literature. This data will be provided to the biomedical research community through the BioGRID database, which is the largest and most widely used international resource for expertly curated biological interaction data. The biocurator will maximize the impact of BioGRID by working with numerous international collaborators.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with stakeholders including granting agencies, team members at international sites, and third-party partners to coordinate biocuration strategies.
- Implement standardized approaches to ensure data curation accuracy and efficiency
- Lead a team of data curation scientists on specific curation projects
- Train new curators and collaborators on the curation pipeline and implement quality control procedures
- Coordinate with software engineers for testing and deployment of software solutions, including web interfaces and natural language processing algorithms
- Define new biocuration opportunities and devise strategies to efficiently extract data from the biomedical literature
- Proactively engage international database partners and end users and assist with integration of complementary resources and incorporation of large datasets from diverse research groups
- Attend and present at international meetings on biological data curation

Qualifications:

- PhD in biology or biomedicine in one or more relevant sub-disciplines
- Extensive experience in biocuration and demonstrated breadth of knowledge across many areas of biology and biomedicine
- Demonstrated publication record in biomedical sciences and biocuration
- Track record of successful project management in biology, biomedicine or biocuration
- Knowledge of fundamental principles of biology and bioinformatics
- Critical analytical skills and strong problem-solving abilities
- Extensive hands-on experience and track record in supervising teams on complex projects with proven ability to attain team goals
- Enthusiasm for collaborative endeavors and ability to work well under pressure
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
