The Bruce County Transportation and Environmental Services Department has approximately 650 km of road and approximately 148 bridges under its jurisdiction. The department administers a road system composed of ‘collector and arterial’ roads, which distinguishes the County system from the local municipal road system. This system provides a consistent level of service between local urban, industrial, commercial and recreational centers. The Transportation and Environmental Services Department also coordinates Waste Management for the County.

**About the Job**
Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, the Environmental Technician is responsible for the stewardship and health of County forests. The incumbent will assist the Bruce County Forest Conservation By-law and be appointed as the County’s Noxious Weed Inspector under the Ontario Weed Control Act. The incumbent is also responsible for providing outreach and extension services to the Bruce County community on all Environmental matters.

**Requirements**:

- Two-year post-secondary Forestry Technician or Environmental Technician diploma
- Two years of previous experience in a related field
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to positively identify all tree species in all seasons, including stumps or logs
- Ability to positively identify forest pests whether insect, disease, or animal
- Ability to identify noxious weeds listed in the Provincial Weeds Act and knowledge of recognized destruction methods
- Familiar with forest management practices
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations, secure and preserve evidence
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to undertake field work in varying terrain and weather conditions
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Experience operating hand and power tools such as drills, saws, and specialized equipment
- Dedication to safety measures and best practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Audiometric Testing completed within 90 days of starting position

- Current Operator’s and Exterminator’s License for Weed Inspector duties
- Certified chainsaw operator
