**PRIMARY FOCUS/OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY**:
Provide support and assistance in the Adult ESL Literacy Sewing & Embroidery Program held at the St. Francis Women’s LINC Program. The sewing program aims to enhance learners with language and numeracy acquisition while developing marketable skills.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES**

1. Adhere to all ECSD LINC policies and procedures;
2. Practice cultural awareness, sensitivity and respect in the workplace;
3. Establish a welcoming, safe and positive learning atmosphere for students;
4. Teach (Foundation to 4L) LINC classes using a kinesthetic approach to learning language and numeracy skills;
5. On a limited basis, create modules/lesson plans/assessments/teaching materials following assigned LINC Curriculum, and a Task-Based Language Teaching approach (TBLT), citing others when referring to or including their work;
6. Design and develop appropriate sewing projects for classes including any learning supports necessary as well as preparing project kits for online classes, if required;
7. Instruct and assist students in language learning and sewing including digital literacy by following the ECSD LINC Curriculum Guidelines and Digital Literacy Progression List;
8. Meet regularly with the Site Coordinator and PBLA Lead to review any concerns.

9. Keep current with developments in the ESL teaching profession including literacy and Portfolio Based Language Assessments (PBLA), if applicable;
10. Keep current with new product developments in the têxtile industry;
11. Prepare class/project supplies such as pre-cutting fabric or setting out or cleaning up supplies for onsite classes;
12. Acquire, sort, and organize program supplies obtained either through purchases or donations;
13. Provide periodic and basic maintenance to sewing machines, ensuring all machines are entry level and mechanical;
14. Coordinate any necessary servicing for the maintenance of the Serger machines, if necessary, with Johnson’s Sewing Centre where the machines were purchased;
15. Work amicably as a team sharing workspaces and participating in and contributing to materials exchange, staff meetings and professional development;
16. Adhere to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) with respect to students’ and employees personal information; and,

Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator

**JOB QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor's degree in Education, CTS major, Alberta teaching certificate is preferred; or, Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology and registered PHEc status; or,
- Related bachelor’s degree; or equivalent experience, and
- 1-2 years of relevant ESL/EAL teaching experience, or
- TESL Canada certification, or
- Completion of the ACE TESOL Certificate
- Language Proficiency Requirements, if required:

- TOEFL iBT - 92 or more with a minimum of 22 in each skill;
- IELTS General or Academic -7.0 overall score with a minimum of 6.5 in each skill; or,
- CELPIP General - 10 in each skill
- Bow Valley College Post TESL Certificate would be considered an asset;
- Experience working with adult ESL learners at various levels;
- Demonstrated capability in developing curricula;
- Strong computer skills and knowledge incorporating technology into the ESL classroom;
- Exposure to teaching project-based learning;
- Sewing construction skills, pattern making and altering and hand embroidery stitches;
- Familiar with operating sergers and mechanical sewing machines as well as basic servicing;
- Recommended: experience using rotary cutters, cutting mats and sewing rulers;
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills; and,
- Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills.
