**Project Title: Creating a Plastic Waste-Free Gros Morne**

**PROJECT DESCRIPTION**

This Green Team will assist the Atlantic Healthy Oceans Initiative on multiple projects aimed at protecting the health of the ocean, coastal environments, and communities by reducing plastic waste in the Gros Morne region of western NL. The team will organize and conduct beach cleanups and audits, gathering data on the types of plastic waste entering marine environments; work with AHOI’s Team to create public education and communications materials focused on

reducing plastic dependency in coastal communities; complete other duties as required by CCNL and AHOI to fulfill project activities. All Teams will conduct a minimum of five Environmental Awareness Events and successful applicants will be required to participate in several training sessions, including Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S). Employees will be required to follow all OH&S regulations and policies of CCNL and AHOI.

**POSITION DETAILS**

**TEAM LEADER (1 Position)**:The Team Leader is the day to day supervisor for the Green Team. This person is responsible for the conduct of Team Members and the work they undertake. The Team Leader ensures that the work required is properly assigned and carried out, and that the project proceeds smoothly. This involves planning, maintaining discipline, daily acquisition of project materials, effective communication with the community partner and CCCNL staff, administrative duties etc. A Team Leader should demonstrate the ability to plan and organize, and must have leadership and supervisory skills. **This position is for 13 weeks, at $18/hr for 35 hrs/week, from May 27th to August 23rd, 2024. This project requires work from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Weekend work may be required; a flexible schedule will be necessary for community clean up events as well as field research days.**

**TEAM MEMBER (1 Position)**:The Team Member is an integral part of the Green Team program. The Team Member follows the direction given by the Team Leader, has the ability to work well in a team environment and feels that they can make a positive contribution to the projects undertaken. **This position is for 13 weeks, at $17/hr for 35 hrs/week, from May 27th to August 23rd, 2024. This project requires work from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Weekend work may be required; a flexible schedule will be necessary for community clean up events as well as field research days.**

**QUALIFICATIONS**

- Willingness to adhere to administration requirements
- Willingness to participate in public engagement and community outreach initiatives
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to hike to some coastal regions
- Physical ability to perform manual labor
- Interest in environmental sustainability and community-led solutions

**ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS**
- Must have CSA approved work boots and/or rain boots and/or hip waders (if required)
- One person on the team may be required to have a valid driver’s license and full time access to a vehicle with adequate insurance
- Reimbursement for vehicle mileage in accordance with CCNL policy
- Ability and willingness to obtain a clear a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (reimbursed)
- Part of this position will require team to be in a boat
- Transportation to/from worksite is the responsibility of employees
- Travel within Gros Morne (7 communities)
