**Purpose**:
The Comptroller is responsible for internal and external financial reporting, the annual financial statements, internal control, and compliance with HST and Income Tax Regulations. The Comptroller is responsible for leading a highly skilled team of professionals in Financial Reporting, Research Accounting, Compliance and General Accounting. As a key financial executive for the University, the Comptroller is responsible for ensuring an effective financial internal control framework exists and managing financial risk.

**Education**:
Undergraduate degree in business or accounting field and a recognized CPA accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA)

**Experience**:
Minimum 7 - 10 years of senior financial management experience in a large complex organization, preferably an academic institution.

**Skills**:
Excellent verbal skills are required to communicate to internal and external stakeholders for purposes of delivering presentations and training sessions to faculty, management, and staff.
Excellent writing skills for purposes of preparing policy guidelines, briefing memos, guides and handbooks and general communications to the Community.
Excellent computer skills, particularly in data extraction and analysis.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and staff within the University and external parties including members of the University Board of Governors, Deans, Vice Presidents, and Executive Officers.
Manage competing interests of the Community, manage, and communicate policy issues, enforce compliance with policy and good accounting practices.
Planning and organizational skills are critical factors to successfully implementing projects that generally span many months, involve large numbers of personnel, have institutional wide impact, and are characterized by tight deadlines.
Ability to multi-task and set priorities is a key requirement for this position.

Knowledge
Knowledge of accounting, budget management, financial controls, financial planning principles and general accounting procedures.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of large Enterprise Reporting Planning (ERP) systems.Summary of Work Environment.
Works within a typical office environment (actual and/or virtual).
Fast-paced environment.
Significant workload.

- **Compensation**:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
