**Main Street Community Services (MSCS)** is a registered charity that works to address a critical need in Ottawa by developing and implementing comprehensive researched based programs for individuals who are challenged by a disability or an exceptionality. Within MSCS’s scope of support, is a community accessed day program that is both goal based and person centered. Within this program falls our need for professionals qualified in Therapeutic Recreation and Developmental Service.
**Description**:
Provide opportunities to enhance growth towards participant goals, through supported activities and programming through both in house and community oriented means. Support participants in the person centered environment while following the daily organizational schedules developed in the group process and laid out by the Activity Supervisor and Program Coordinator.
**Principal Duties**
Develop personalized activities structured around providing opportunities to enhance the participant’s skillset towards their goals, while simultaneously empowering people to become active and contributing members of their community.
Assist individuals in personal needs support, such as toileting, meal times, as well as emotional support through situations of mismanaged impulse control or volatility.
Respect the individual’s confidentiality and privacy.
Maintain a positive, friendly, safe and healthy environment for all staff and participants.
Follow any established plans of care ensuring that on an ongoing basis, the goals of those plans are being worked on and met to the best of your ability.
Promote healthy living including physical and mental activity, healthy eating and participant
engagement.
Providing a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which individuals can feel safe and secure.
Establishing relationships with individuals and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
**Other Responsibilities**:
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with the organizational and legislated regulations to promote safety in the workplace.
Ensuring all policies are followed and acted upon in the working space and also abiding by the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
Administer medications and ensure secure control and storage in accordance with medication policies as well as Ministry guidelines.
Any other duties within the scope of the program.
**General Requirements**:
Take responsibility for the safeguarding of all individuals in care and follow the Duty to Report Policy
Participate in staff meetings and training activities.
Participate in all quality assurance systems.
Ensuring personal development with ongoing training in the Supportive Worker field while caring for our individuals.
- College Diploma in any of the following disciplines as well as equivalent work experience:_
Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Child and Youth Worker, Community and Justice Services (CJS)
Valid G or G2 Drivers License and Driving Abstract
Experience: Minimum one year working experience in the field
**Salary**: From $24.00 per hour
