**THIS IS A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT POSITION FOR A BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEE.** Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, the incumbent is responsible for the daily administration of pension and benefits plans for both active employees and retirees, in compliance with contractual and legislative requirements. This position is the first contact for all employees for questions related to benefits and/or pension. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

- Administering, monitoring and maintaining documentation for benefits enrolment and pension plan enrolment for all eligible employees in accordance with collective agreements, terms and conditions of employment, college policies and procedures, and legislative requirements
- Coordinating with Total Rewards team to ensure contributions and deductions are accurate
- Assisting with monthly reconciliation of benefits and pension to ensure billing matches the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
- Reviewing benefit statements for accuracy, and working with the Pension and Benefits Administrator to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Investigating and resolving problems related to benefit and pension issues, and escalating when required
- Liaising with the benefits provider and College Employer Council to ensure proper processes are followed
- Maintaining accurate records and assisting in compilation of statistical reports related to benefits
- Meeting with new employees to review benefits or as needed for refresher/review/updates
- Updating of employee information accurately and identifying issues in a timely manner
- Administering the overage dependent process
- Participating in the review of procedures and process flows for benefits and pension administration functions
- Assisting the Pension and Benefits Administrator during College Employer Council benefits audit
- Calculating and administering pension estimates, pre-enrolments, transfers and buy backs using specialized pension formulas
- Assisting the Pension and Benefits Administrator to reconcile, analyze and balance year end data for T4 and pension adjustment purposes (PAs)
- Assisting in the calculation and reporting of annual Pension Adjustments
- Assisting in preparing the annual validation of employee data for the CAAT Data Collection Tool (DCT) for employees' earnings, contributions and service
- Meeting with employees planning to retire to explain the process and the requirements

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Successfully completed a minimum of a three-year postsecondary diploma or degree in Business, Human Resources, Accounting or another related field
- Designation as Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) is preferred
- A minimum of three years’ experience performing pension and benefits functions in a unionized environment
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with a computerized HRIS/HCM (preferably PeopleSoft version 9.2 or higher)
- Interpersonal, customer service and communication (oral/written) skills in order to communicate information and provide explanations and/or clarification with tact and diplomacy
- Must be detail oriented with mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
